@ 4000rpm in high first, speed around 20-23k/hr
@ 4000rpm in low first, speed around 5k/hr

don't know if that helps... greg?

To my handy gear calculator
High first 1.3 stock gearing on 31"s - 31kph at 4000rpm. Low first 19kph.

With series 1 27kph high and 10kph low.

Sounds high but this is at 4000 rpm, not at 1000 rpm.

I think the speedo error is affecting your reading in low - the 4.16 shouldn't be 1/4 the high range - more like about 2/5ths (high is 1.57 from memory for a Sierra Series 1)

No way should it be 5kph at 4000rpm and if it does you're really lucky, cos then it's gotta be a series 3.

yea this is the best way to prove the ratio is 4.16 ,simple your rear shaft is already out , you cant put it in wrong as they wont mesh up.

kinda guessing speed cos it bounces, and that's speedo reading, not actual speed... so what u said is prolly 'bout right....

went to my mate's place and compared revs/speed etc, there's definately something different. mine's definately s1 and seems all good, just not quite as low as i was expecting. i think it's gonna be good tho, at least low range is useable again

anyways, his read around 20k/hr @ 4000rpm in high first, and didn't register on the speedo @4000rpm in low first. when i was doing 2000rpm in low first, he was doing 3600rpm to keep up. so i'm guessing he's had something done to his like s3 or maybe diff gearing...

high range is pretty similar to mine... diff gearing affects both doesn't it?

Sounds like he has a series 3 and you have a series 1. There is a difference in high range between the two but nowhere near as noticable compared to low... I think the figure is about 6% different in high but it's like 50% different in low.

So there we have it - someone has a series 3.

If you dont like your Series 1 and sierra I'll swap you my vitara with NO rockhopper
