2nd low. definately. you don't want to be going too fast, and you might think 1st high is slow, but when in the water it isnt.
also general water crossing safety:
wind down windows esp if they're electric
seat belts off inc child restraints
be prepared to go out the window. you have a roof rack so if you do get stuck aim to climb onto it.
keep your mobile phone/sat phone on your person.
get yourself out first. doesn't go with the women and children idea first but it will be easier for you to pull wife and kids out from on top.
hell you could try it for the fun of it in the drive way. try and get your overall time low.
water crossings don't have to be dangerous. hell you are more likely to die on a sydney road then in water out bush.
