some old truckies have been doing this for years . One i know used to fill at Yunta which gave enough fuel to get to Sydney / added 4ltr of 2 stroke
and said injectors would be clean when he got there / swore by it
i actually sold him oil so i know its correct

Old truckie here (47 years old) I've never heard of 2 stroke in the fuel until now we used to put camphor balls in the tank and on the odd occasion 5 liters of petrol in each tank (500 lt tanks)
I think i'll wait for the outers testing team to report back with economy figures and any side effects before i'll be putting 2 stroke in my 80 series.
Oh yer i dont think the camphor balls did any thing other than chuck a blue flame out the stacks at night
So do you support your local vendor...not if it is going to cost me almost double.
I have heard of camphor balls to clean out the tanks \ keep them clean, not sure how true it is, but thats the story I was told
If the above post did not offend you in any way please PM me so I can try harder!!

I have heard of Acerton (sp?) and spash of petrol. What are camphor balls ? are they the same as moth balls?
V8s are nice, but you cant beat the sound of a turbo working the magic on a juiced up diesel.
Loanrangie wrote:I have an obvious question, how the hell can a poofteenth of 2 stroke oil added to diesel that will only get injected at TDC and then burnt straight away have any effect on lubrication of the cylinders or other reciprocating parts ? Surely all it will do is add to the smoke and possibly lower the combustability of the injected diesel ? I'm no diesel mechanic but thats how i see it, some sort of drip feed system like on lpg vehicles would have a greater effect.
it's about lubricating the injection system, not the engine.
most quality 2 stroke oils burn with out smoke when mixed right. in this case it is mixed very lean compared to what is used in a 2 stroke engine.
Thats the only benefit i can see and only to mechanical injection systems , seems some try to make it out to be a miracle cure or something.
If the only effect was to lubricate the injection system. and not harm anything, i'd do it. but like some one els said, i'll wait for the outers testing team to report back.
had a td27 powered nav 5 years ago
when i went for a long run would
put in 10 ltrs of unleaded to a tank!lol
did this for 3 years even after the turb conversion
got an extra 20kph on top, more pwr to overtake
was going good when i sold it!
drove the wheels of that thing oil change every 3thou
not any problems!
got it at 170k turb conversion at 185k sold it at around 240k!
After closely reading this thread it got the better of me today so I chucked in about 100ml of semi synthetic 2 stroke oil into my 1/3rd of a tank of diesel in the troopy (1hz). Cant really report back on anything yet except for what i thought was a ticking noise comming from my lifters clearly was just my injectors because its nice and quiet for what it is now.
Ill run this tank out and fill it up and start doing some testing from there.
Jabber gone. Now have 98 nissan terrano and a 94 4.2ldiesel rv troopy on 33s slowly getting the fancy bits. How the hell do I change my user name?

No... they are LARGER..
Moth balls are naphthalene .............or paradichlorobenzene
I am driving from Brisbane to Melbourne next week and I will do it using the added 2 stroke and see how we go for economy. The TD42 gets around 550km out of a tank. Am am pretty fanatical about my fuel consumption to.
There are two infinates in life , The universe and Patrols!
I havent monitered fuel consumption yet but since trying this the troopy is quieter like I have previosly mentioned. It is a lot smoother in excelleration, it runs smoother, it even starts better. Over all everything looks good. I imaging fuel consumption should be a bit better at least due to the smoother exceleration, no need to use as much throttle, but untill I moniter this I wont be sure. But the results I have already got make me happy!

Used a tank yesterday with this in it, no cold start knocking, seems to run quieter and rev a little easier, will know fuel consumption later this week.
If its not upside down and on fire, I'm not trying hard enough.......
My Build: http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/phpBB2/ftopic177269.php
Well after my 1st tank over and done with, I can't say it has made a massive difference in much. It is "slightly" quiter and blows a little less smoke when i'm pedal to the metal.
As far as fuel goes, i haven't gotten any further on this tank then normal.
I will give it a go for another 2 tanks and see if anything changes.
GQ Patrol - TD42, 365'000k's on the clock. Very good cond.
2,000k's so far with the 2T. Much quieter and seems smoother.
Not sure about economy, maybe a little better. Less smoke up hills, etc.
I'll definitely keep using it.
I done my niss. TD42 today but i done a jar test first . I put 50/50 deisel and castrol ACTIV 2T in a jar , Also castrol R30 shook them and looked 6 hours later the ACTIV2T stayed mixed and the R30 seperated from the deisel, so wouldn't use R 30. I think anyone wanting to do this should test the 2 stroke in a jar of deisel first as you dont want it to seperate and suck up raw oil in the injector pump. In saying that it blew me away the difference it made now all i hear is a noisy tappet and deffinatly more zippy. Cheers.
I run R30 in my peripheral port RX7, I usually drain the tank between uses anyway, so oil settling isn't a major issue. Although, when i ran a 51ml weber instead of the injection it was street driven, so this wasn't practical.
I used to add a capfull or two of toluene to the tank when i added oil which would ensure it stayed mixed.
I wouldn't recommend toluene in anything you had to drive day to day, I've got a feeling it would dry out o rings and may not be too kind to the injectors on a diesel. I'm completely inexperienced with two stroke in oilers though.
shortyq wrote:so what your saying is the injector pump is doing well!
the engine could do with a rebuild!
IM'e doing it to lubricate the injector pump and injectors as the low sulfer deisel we got now doesn't as the guy who replaced my seals in my pump said and he's getting them in all the time!!!I doubt noisy lifters mean i need a rebuild WOT!!!
