For those like myself - boost and fuel are changed when ever i have a long tow to do with the boat (3 ton) and need to back off fuel to control the Egts.

How many people on here are running an external gate on their TD42?

just went through this for a mate in brisbane. pre dyno runSSSSS, boost tee, raise boost, adjust timing, adjust fuel, post dyno runs, full report including egt readouts and boost readouts was $420 at a shop i take my new cruiser ute too for servicing. he does road tuning aswell as dyno (he hasnt got a dyno of his own but knows the bloke just down the road) so will also take it for a quick run after dyno tuning to make sure it still drives good and possibly adjust more.

what exactly do you do for $200?
Put the car on the dyno and do a baseline while data logging EGT's on the dyno pyro. I then increse the boost (I don't use a boost controller as they are less reliable than my method), I then add fuel until I bring the EGT's back to the stock levels(now less due to the boost added), I have previously determined what boost is optimal and safe for TD42 stock turbos . I then overlay the two power runs and print a copy for the owner.

thanks for the reply. it is about what i would expect for the $200.
PLEASE dont take that the wrong way.
But i think it shows quite well why people are arguing over these prices.
If i was to pay some one to tune my my engine i would want more then that.
I would want valve clearences checked and adjusted if needed (with a new rocker cover gasket fitted).
Pump timing checked and adjusted if needed.
possibly have the injectors removed and tested aswell, but that would probably be discussed prior to booking the car in.
i'd willing to bet if you did all of that as well it would cost more then $200

What Joel has said are basic tune up details. A lot more work can be carried out as mentioned. Once again it all boils down to the initial problems, the questions asked by the owner of the car and business doing the work to come to an understanding of what is needed to remedy any problems, the expectations and amount of money to be spent by the car owner.
There can be quite a few repair options to be taken, which should be explained prior to handing over any cash.
Doing the above tends to stop any issues before any work is carried out.
