YN67Hilux......tell the wife this m8 - My partner (who drives a bmw) reckons she's gonna drive the Safari more often - she can't believe the amount of respect you get from other drivers....or how other drivers seem to have this 'HUGE impulse' to not pull out in front of you, they give way immediately, they don't cut in in front of you, they don't tailgate you........AND aside from that - she reckons the Nissan comes in handy as a 4wd as well

You will buy a good series three or a high mileage series four for that money.

The ZD30 is really your only option. Petrols are too heavy on fuel and the 4.2 is too expensive to buy and are also thristy.

Reliability is not longer an issue with the ZD30. I have a 2004 GUIV for work with 370,000kms on it and it hasn't been touched.

I would pay good money to see you tell a ZD30 owner who's lost out, that their engines inability to stay intact is "heresay".

ZD30's are more economical than TD42's?? I dont think so.

The ZD30/TD42 thing has been done to death (or should i say destruction ).

I'm sure if the OP does his research, he won't end up with a ZD30.

The trouble with researching ZD30s is that there's always some defensive guy on a the forum who hasn't had his ZD30 long enough, so he's still talking it up instead of telling everyone to avoid them like the plague.

there has been quite alot of 2003 + zd30S go kaboom lately 3 of which i know of.. and a few on the forums.. hell there was a group buy not long ago

any way my td42 uses about 14l/100 thats non turbo me driving it hard
car weighs like 2800kgs as i carry all my tools around everyday aswell as recovery gear..

sometimes goes down to 10l/100 on the highway if i sit at 100..

Shit eh - i thought it was pre 2003 that were going kaboom. Not too keen on gettin one thats gona go up in smoke and i know that wont impress the mrs eitha. She starting to doubt gettin a patrol at all now leaning towards a prado.

go a 2.8 patrol even other wise the trusty old 4.2 but you could always get a 3l put a pyro guage in and boost guage and keep a monitor on it,
im not going to lie the 3l is a quik motor my mums got one and it flys when you put the boot in it.. im buying a boost and pyro for her tho as they do alot of towing..

One dud engine model shouldn't put you off. You don't see too many people not buying SS Commodores (a few years ago) after the piston slap fiasco.

Prado's and Patrols are two different beasts. At least be consistent and factor in an 80 series or something.

People need to move on and not dwell on the past. Most people who bag the ZD30 have never owned one and don't know what they are on about. Sure there have been issues but name me an engine which hasn't had it's problems. The important thing is that it has been acknowledged by Nissan.
I have owned three TD42's and currently have my fourth ZD30. I would never own a TD42 again. They were a good engine in their day (ie. last century) but they certainly aren't worth the extra $$$$$. If we don't move with the times we would all still be driving Patrols fitted with P40 engines which also was a very good engine.
