Ain't nothing wrong with a commodore motor.
They will go well over 500k if you look after them like change oil and filter and do timing chains and head gaskets if they stuff up but they usually dont. But most engines need that shit done anyway.
You can't argue with the fact that it is the most produced engine in the world to date. Which makes parts an absolute dream. My mate has a rangie and it an absolute hassle to get parts from what he tells me. Maybe he is not looking in right places but i can go to any auto wrecker/parts shop in the country and you can guarantee they will have or obtain quickly commodore parts.
I also agree with what ruff said that there are other options if cost not much drama.
my 2 c.
Cheers

love that... again, 500K, to me is average engine life, nothing to write home about.
hey, rotaries are the most reliable engines ever, provided you change things like apex seals, end seals, look after them, don't rev them cold and don't cook them, provided you shut it down without housing damage when the apex seals go, they'll run forever...
woot i found a perpetual engine
same can be said for almost any engine out there...

just because an engine is the most produced in the world, doesnt mean shit as far as it being good......especially in the auto industry......just means it made money. The 2 arent the same.

Would it actually be "the most produced engine in the world to date", anyway?

I reckon you might be right with the A motor; corollas alone would just about get it to the #1 spot. 350 chev wouldn't even be in the running imho.

In that case it would be the VW flat 4.
Corolla has overtaken it for sales, but the VW never really changed.

but the A was in so many other vehicles too tho.
as for the chev, i was probably thinking along the lines of "engine used in the highest number of different models" i.e. from the Vette, to the vans. i'm sure GM probably tried shoehorning into their mini compeditor too when they got bored.
