I know the tyre mounted on the rim in the picture will remain the same if it were moved from side to side

BUT

if you were to take the tyre off the rim and turn it around it would be wrong no matter which side you put it on.

Basically, what I am saying is, it is mounted correctly for the 'cupping' atm.

Making them, in a sense, semi directional.

Lets say the tyre in the pic is mounted to the left rear of the vehicle.

All good.

Now leave the tyre as it is.

Remove the rim and turn the rim around 180 degrees.

Now mount the rim/tyre combo to the right rear of the same vehicle.

Cupping has changed on the outer most lugs.

Man, I hope that has made sense, because it is doing my head in :rofl:

i understand what your saying now, but wheather you remount the rim or just put a left tyre on the right its a non directional tyre so it does not matter what you do. the outsides are always going to be the opposite.

if you cut the tyre directly down the centre of the tread. then lay them both on the edge you just cut. they will be exactly the same.

so what 383FJ45 is saying is NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO TO THE TYRE - Flip it, spin it, rotate it, swap it, turn the farker inside out - if looking from front - on the drivers side the outer lugs are gonna be biting forward and the passenger side the outer lugs are gonna be biting backwards :D

Do either of you have swampers ?

If so, pop outside and 'visualise' the swapping/flipping :lol:

On my rig right now 3 of the tyres are mounted in what I described as the 'optimal' method and the 4th is opposite.

I think I have not explained it sufficiently for you mere mortals :rofl: :rofl: :rofl:

Anyway, back to normal programming ..............................

you must have a different mould. or maybe interco swapped their tread direction along the way. your not going to convince me. you can photoshop all the pictures of tyres you want. :rofl:

:rofl: so were do you mount your spare in the normal 40s method or the optional method like swing away carrier or do you mount it the oppisite way and have it flat on the bed :D

id never run swampers around on the road all the time, but would definatly take em between tracks.
Im way to lazy to change em on site :idea:

Mounted them up today on my beadlock rims and inflated to 30psi .They look high centerd at this presure of the car .What presures are every body running them at on road as ill be doing onaverage 100ks just to go wheelin most of the time and dont want to wear them out from over or under inflation

my tsl sx's were not balanced, and drove ok. no shakes, no wobbles, no loud humming. did over 130kmh, before i got scared, (doesnt stop too well with the big diameter rubber!)

maybe with little cars, it makes a difference.

I had two highly modified LandRovers engineered,certified and registered on Q78 swampers recently. The engineer would not accept 38's only because the recommended rim width for these is 10 inches, which is more than 2inches greater than the widest optional rim for Landies. The owner of these vehicles spent a lot of time on the Net getting specs from Interco to prove to the engineer that swampers were in fact speed rated and legal for Victoria at least. Bill.

i'd be interested to know where he found that swampers were speed rated? thanks

Next time I see Nigel I will ask him, but as far as I can tell he downloaded the information from Interco's web site.
I have never been hassled by the police about the legality of my swampers. They just told me once that I had too many( when I had duall wheels front and back}
I think all pneumatic tyres have some type of speed rating. It may depend on the speed capability of the vehicle you fit them to. Then again, if the maximum legal speed in Victoria is 110kmh it should not be a legal requirement om any vehicle to have a tyre that has a higher speed rating.
As an aside, I remember a few years ago there were some cheap Chinese truck tyres that were imported into Australia. These were rated "A'' which as it turned out were for animal drawn vehicles only.
"Speed not to exceed 5mph". Bill.

yeah i did some searching.

swampers are good for around 100km/h which equates to a speed rating of J. although not printed on the tyre.
