Does the comp spec winch still have that load limiter device?

Have had issues with mine (My winch is about 18months old, so generation one version I think), where it has not let me release the load on the winch, first time i was anchored to a tree recovering a mate on a rocky track, winch would not wind in or out under load so we were both stuck, had to get another mate parked alongside to use his warn 9000 on single line pull to take the load on the stranded patrol. Replaced load limiter and end gear after this using parts under warranty - Tigerz11 were very professional and easy to deal with on this, i sent through a number of photos of all gearbox components, which was easier than sending the unit from WA.

Second time I was recovering another car from a partial bogging, winch would wind in no problem but would not release the load, only way i could release the load was to drive forward. I could hold my car on the brakes for this recovery, so the other car was not heavily stuck!

On both occasions winch has made loud clicking gear grinding noise when trying to release load. Yet 3 stage planetary gears were not worn or broken after the first issue; I have not taken winch out since the second issue a few weeks ago. Without load I could spool the winch up after both occasions.

I need to set up another winch session with video footage so i can determine what is going on and then discuss with Tigerz11.

I have also used the winch at other times on easier pulls with no fuss.

It's still lever action but being a low mount it rolls out with incredible ease, unlike a typical hi mount that really does need a free spool kit.

I have to give it to the Tigerz team, their winches get better and better every few months. Under heavy load like really big rocks or deep mud they do pull harder than an improved hi mount. It's only a matter of time and someone will have the nads to run one at a major comp and we can all see for ourselves on the track how it compares under pressure.

Whats the difference between std 12000 and 2 speed 12000 aside from 2 speed capability?
Re waterproofing , longevity etc etc

Really asking is there a down side to 2 speed model?

I hear Team DGR are running a 2speed Tigerz11 one at TT2010 after recieving some sponsorship.
Will be great to see how the new winches perform under pressure.

Yeah DGR are messing around with one of the 9000lb ones but I don't think anyone is running the 10,000lb ones in a winch challenge truck yet. The 12000 2 speed has performed very well in a winch challenge comp a couple of years ago in R&D testing.
