didnt the christie bros remove (or blew em, then left them) the seal years ago and run oil to lube everything in their comp truck diffs?? or did i dream that?

That might work on a comp truck,, if you don't mind oil pissing everywhere, but not reccomended on a vehicle that does road kilometres.

Old landrovers had the cv's in an oil bath, though they used leather swivel hub seals,,, still pissed out.
And the HD upgrade for the rovers was a tube of moly grease and drain the oil.

Truth is gear oil wont hurt cv's but it's pretty obvious to Mr Plod with a canary pad when it's leaking all over the road and you dont want to be caught out losing too much diff oil while 4wdriving.

Yeah CV's might be allright, especially with free wheeling hubs unlocked for road driving, but wheel bearings won't be so happy.

I put the axle seal in sooo carefully after it let go the second time and I don't know what els to do. Does anyone els have this same problem? Please help!
Had the same problem in my maverick, ended up being the steering adjusted waaaay too far to the left. The CV joint would actually pinch the seal at full lock.

I adjusted it back and it hasn't done it since.

Well the rear wheel bearings are lubricated by exactly the same type of oil ;)

so a good wheel alignment would be a good fix yes?

no there's a steering stopper on the rear side of the swivel hub.

this needs to be adjusted out a bit. Make sure you adjust both left and right sides the same distance and test lock to lock movement.

this might be a stupid question, but where do you buy the genuine seals from? and how do you know whether its just a seal or the whole swivel hub is leaking?

i dont know much about swivel hubs and front axle seals so can someone elaborate a bit more maybe? thanks :)

I'd try Nissan for the seals..
The seal is the only thing stopping the oil from coming out the diff...there is not suppose to be any oil in the swivel hub...in other words if you have oil coming out of the swivel hub the axle seal is leaking and you could pick-up a genuine article from Nissan...

Ok so I checked my steering stoppers. At first glance I thought hmm yep still there. And I remembered that I had been super carefull to keep them at the same adjustment when I last overhauled the hubs. Buuuut on closer inspection turns out left side ( leaky side) steering stopper is bent and the head is broken off. Siiiiick. That's why my cv is chewing the axle seal out. Annoying issue but at the same time I'm happy that it most likely proves that my housing isn't bent. Epic win if I may.

Thought that might be it, took me a while to find it. I've got an adjustable steering arm tho so mine was an easy fix.
