I think the 80 auto is same as 60 (a440), the diesel one is not electronic. Wholesale automatic do some shift kit/ valve body thing thats recommended and the torque converter needs mod so a few $ there. To set up an auto properly seems a lot of $$ to me, as only the t400, 4l80 or possibly Cruiser are the only ones that would last. Last time I checked years ago a worked t700 was worth $5k or so and that was less than it cost for the others.

It's a hilux transfer between the gearbox and landcruiser transfer.
Low range 2.28 standard hilux.
Only down side is it may need 2 adapters.

The rover stuff advantage isn't just the stronger T case, it gives you 3.5:1 lowrange factory (more if you want to drop tranny gears in), which is as good as you'll get with a set ofaftermarket reduction toyota transfer gears.

the auto isn't that weak i'm led to believe, there's a few people running LS1's in front of them from what i can tell. and you can convert the cases to part time operation too.

there occasionally is ford C4 auto's with toyota split case transfers pop up really cheap on ebay, and there are plenty of C4-chev 350 bellhousings available. C4 is a stout auto.

I would consider a turbo 400 with toyota split case if one came up b4 the C4. I had a C4 in the 80 it worked ok after i had it rebuilt espesily inlow range with the tranny gears. 1st hi was to hi though

If the right rover unit comes up i will consider it, Im going to do my canopy etc first and put the gearbox off as long as i can in hope that somthing might pop up.

Cheers

Only use the front reduction section of the transfer.
You can also upgrade the input shaft on the hilux transfer if concerned about strength, the rover transfers seemed to be strong from what people say.
Rover 3.5 : 1
Toyota 2 :28 x 2 :1 = 4.56 : 1
The dual case will add 6.5" of length to the drive train also, so if that is an issue the rover single case would be better.

The toybox with the landcruiser 5 speed. As far as i know it's new and they have no pricing on there website.
You could email Marlin for prices and strength behind the 350 chev.
It may depend on how much power the 350 puts out.
Not sure if Marlin has an Australian distributor, i think OPW?

At least with duals you can still have standard low and low low :D

To close this thread off i never herd back from Marlin or OPW i bought a 60 series auto off ebay 100% complete from shifter to flex plate and was going to have work done to it with touque converter and valve body etc but it did not turn out to be 100% complete :bad-words: cost was just going to get way out of control.

I dropped off a 5 speed to the local 4wd shop yesterday. I pulled it out of a 60 i wrecked out and wanted to have its condition checked out before i handed over the $$$ for a set of reduction gears. I ordered a set of reduction gears from Marks 4wd adaptors today after i got a call from the 4wd shop saying the 5 speed has recently had a full rebuild and it appears to be in very good condition.

thanks for the input cheers Daz

I was just on the phone with Marlin yesterday. We are thinking of bringing in a couple of Toy Boxes to fit the H55F. He was saying the can build them in several different configurations.
