Got abit done this weekend not bad to say my first spray job!
Just got to drop motor in and wire up now.
Just for the people out there that are thinking of doing a ute chop,
If your not the best welder are fabricator don't bother it is a lot of hard work and i've got a full factory full of every machine you need and i found it hard.
If i was to do it again i would think twice.
For all the guys that have done it in there garage you are better then me
But saying that it has come out better then i could have ever imagined and i couldn't be happier with it.
Thanks Adam

Re: disco ute build
well done Adam.
The only thing I would say is that it looks like the bar work over the roof lights may well catch lots of tree branches.
Have seen in the uk mags the guys run thin wire cables up to their roof racks to help clear overhanging bushes.

Re: disco ute build
Ye i know what you mean t robbo i was thinking of doing what you said you reckon the best way to get tension would be turn shackles?
Thanks Adam
Thanks Adam
Re: disco ute build
sounds like a good solution. you will probably need to play with tension as if the cables are too tight I expect the will snap and if too loose wont provide any protection. I expect most impacts will occur when you are driving with some speed so the cables will need good mounting points to prevent shearing.adam big lad wrote:Ye i know what you mean t robbo i was thinking of doing what you said you reckon the best way to get tension would be turn shackles?

perhaps a search around some of the uk sites might give more info on how the poms set these up. I have never personally seen them up close.

Re: disco ute build
i know u probably don't want to, but to save your lights that really needs to be a flip down bar, pneumatic or manual, it does sit along way up there, and i don't know where u wheel, but up here those lights would be trashed in a couple of runs, wire sliders, etc or not. wouldn't want to see your first trip report with "my 4 light force got taken out by a bloody low lying branch" even if u have a soft roll they're partly protected.

What a great looking ute - and I know what you mean re the effort for specialised panels etc - and I have only had to repair our Rangie Ute ones. Looks like you have made sure to protect the non standard panels well with your bar work - it is a pain to have to repair them. Door and gaurds etc can be sourced from std vehicles. Specialise panels have to be cut and rewelded - ie remade.
There must be a market for someone to press some panels as a kit to make the disco cab - we would see a lot mroe of these on the road as a result.
