ie 1HDFTE turbo and wastegate
is blabla-1 for a ute that runs 10 psi and blabla -2 for a 100 series that runs 16 psi
yes it is a turbo and yes it is for a 1hdfte but..............
they are not the same because of the car they came in

Different tunes means the part only has to withstand the pressures of the more powerful engine. So long as the part works in the 100, it will work in the 78.

Makes more sense to make one piston to handle both configurations, then to make a piston for each configuration.

You'll probably find that the same piston is the replacement part for all engines of that family back to the first 80 series with the 1hd-t, rather then having 20 different identical looking pistons sitting on a shelf for every different model of toyota that came with the 1hd engine.

you cannot say the engines are the same because there are so many parts that make up and "engine"
and some of these parts are the same but some differ
when you say the are the same you are basically saying you can bolt one in place of the other this is not the case
if you believe this you are misguided
why dont you try it and put it on the dyno

the toyota manual has different test specs listed for various different parts depending on if it were from a ute or a wagon due to the differences

Not according to toyota- theres different part numbers for Pistons between the 100 and 79, Fuel pumps have different part numbers, Injector nozzles are different, Turbo's are different and toyota even list two different part numbers for long blocks.

They ARE a different engine between the two.
They probably need a different part number so they can charge more for one of them. :lol:
