Yep Bowtie on the back of the gq and proud of it and a whole lot of power to burn. heheh
Looks like its a race then stephanie
On a serious note if anyone has any questions or thoughts about using an LS or LSX engine do some research on ls1tech or performance trucks. Check out some youtube as well and this will confirm any HP/TQ queries. This engine series is so good lots of Mustang owners do the conversion and the aftermarket support is outstanding as I found out by doing thousands of hours worth of research.
By the way Stephanie I hope this gu spends more time on its weels and not on its roof like your old one

id be interested to see YOUR cam specs (or the cam manufacturers estimated power band), i know the engines can make big power but an easy 700hp na is more than big, personaly i think an engine that size with that amount of power would be too peaky for offroad use, but i would love to be prooved wrong

Check my signature mate my engine is blown, so different cam specs to N/A and compression.
Do some research on the forums I mentioned and you will see the proven potential of dozens of different LS/LSX combinations.
To compare a big block to an LSX is like comparing apples to oranges.

so is it 700 na or blown?

Are you reading the posts properly?
I said my engine is blown, however it would easily do 700fwhp N/A. It has a lot more power than 700fwhp blown; my unopened 5.7 ls1 with a mild cam had 650fwhp blown.

Check out this link it is a LS 416ci and it does 714fwhp N/A and it is a lot smaller than your 440ci
http://ls1tech.com/forums/dynamometer-r ... hp-na.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Do yourself a favour and do some research and you will see how antiquated the Big Block is compared to the LS/LSX. The rotating mass alone on a big block gives it a disadvantage over a large cube small block. There are plenty of heads available that will outflow most BB heads as well.

link doesnt work.
id like to see that 714hp dyno graph, like i said i would love to be proven wrong but i dont think a 7l engine producing 700hp NA will be very useable offroad, whether its a hemi a cleveland or an ls. its still a fairly high amount of power to get out of that many cubes. my old bike produces 100hp per L but delivers it terribly, modern bikes are producing around 200hp per L but they do it at 12000rpm, not exactly suited to crawling up rocks.
i am still interested to see your fuel setup as i will probably need something similar, are you running a surge tank?

Guys how about starting a thread elsewhere so you don't continue to hijack Mitch's thread. He's trying to get some ideas on which way he wants to go with his comp truck build, not watching you guys in a p!ss!ng contest. Keep it on track so he can get some good info for his question.

Cheers

Funny thin about your comment Steve I was going to write the exactly same thing.

Either put up pics with some specs or shut up!!!!!

I could join this little penile extension battle by saying things like so what I run an rb30 turbo and it is better than ford or holden but I don't give a crap. I want to see comp proven combinations.

So unless you have competed in your rig and want to put some pics up or hey I have an idea ill even start a thread for you holden vs ford vs nissan.

Just for you guys

Thanks for the people that want to share photos along with ideas such as Steve for example.

But I get notification every time some one comments and it is so annoying......

Ill say it again for the web wheeler put up or shut up!!!!!

Regards
Mitch

I have an XR6T ute, a toyota supercharger on a VN V6 in a moon buggy and the above patrol has a ford motor and auto with a 60's LandCruiser T case. Do I have the biggest pecker now?

Pull your head in Mitch;
I was having a gentle dig at Steve and I'm sure he is a big Boy and can take it.
As for the pissing comp next time I will be less polite to people asking questions about the same things over and over and I won't re direct them to the websites that have the answers to their questions.

Along with many people on Outers I don’t feel I need to take photos of every stage of modifications my truck goes through. I have been involved with the comp scene for about 12 years and I have repaire mor comp rigs than I care to remember. I do all of the work on my vehicles myself including building the engines and I’m sure that anyone on outers that has seen my work will attest to the quality.

The only reason I have not used my GQ for comp work is because I recently lost the eye sight in my left eye along with severe facial trauma during an incident at work so don’t bother trying to take a cheap shot web wheeling tuff guy; I have a low tolerance for mouthy fools.

Clearly you are very a experienced competitor with very little knowledge of how to build a comp truck so a keen ear and tight lips may help your cause, you know the saying ya get more bees with honey than lemon.

I'm not defending the above post BUT did you not call Steve's "Crappy" before Mitch even said anything?
You could have started a thread about fuel systems?
You could have Pm's Steve.
You haven't posted any pics like asked in the title.

From earlier in the thread -

Why would you want to run a crappy Ford when you can run an LSX more reliably and with more HP and torque to boot.
Probably cheaper as well.
But Mitch Gouldy is right your asking for idea's/help. Don't be rude

Hi Wicked
These questions are off topic as well mate but seeing as you asked politely. I have known Steve for many years and I have helped repair his old comp GU a couple of times when he needed help to get him back into the comp at the OBC so I dont need permission from anyone on outers to have a joke with him now do I.

All Gu with ARB lockers and cryo'd axles and CV's and the usual housing mods.
I am running a 12" chev pressure plate and a custom unsprung brass button ZGrip clutch plate from Textralia but if I wind up the wick anymore I will need a twin plate or auto, I was looking at a 2 speed powerglide because of its size and strength and it cost a lot less than others.

I am only running 35" tyres at present because I think the 37" will put a lot more strain on the driveline with the extra power.

Alright thanks everyone for the good info and fore getting back on track with ideas on what is working in the comps today.

Also sorry if I sounded a little mouthy it probably was. But I like to think I can learn a lot from people who actually build trucks for the comps. I have competed in the smaller sort of comps like willowglen etc.

But am looking at a full year of comp wheeling before I decide on whether or not I want to tuff truck my car or start the winch challenge scene.

I am only young but as some people say learn from your mistakes and other peoples mistakes. So I am trying the best I can with the knowledge I receive from other competitors and comp builders to build my truck rights the first time.

I am also curious to know the weak point in the gu front diff??? I have had my housing blasted and have a gusset kit. But if anyone can tell me where they crack, bend, or fracture that will be great

Thank again guys

Regards
Mitch

if you do decide to go auto, i will hopefully have my rig going in the near future and be able to test the strength of the 727 to lt230 (rover). i am a little concerned about the trans output shaft but they can be upgraded. the lt230 has a 3.33 low range and is supposed to be very tough when modded to part time or locked. the adaptor was factory on rangies 82-85 and because the box is so big you can pick them up cheap as the 3.5 rover struggles more with them. only problem is the side drop on the rear tailshaft. rover used leftover inter scout boxes with an adaptor plate and im sure you could buy an inter to ls adaptor off the shelf.
might be an option if you wanted an extra gear, not quite as tough as a glide but probably the strongest 3spd out there.

cheers, mat

Hi now i dont run big HP only a turbo diesel but im running 37s on a gq ute for winch challenges up her in Central qld, my opinion is that a braced GQ front diff with Caloffroad CVs and axles will be stronger than a gu diff anyday, i run arb airlockers in both diffs, my waek point is the free wheeling hubs, i go thru them pretty quick, i choose to leave that as the weak link as its cheap and quick to fix, instead of smashing cvs or diff centres.

Just my opinion
