Hi JR
This is the bellhousing with the fork and slave cylinder and thrust bearing [not showen]
You might be able to do me a favor I am after the housing that goes between R151 gearbox and the geardrive transfer case year 86/7
we could do a barter trade if you can find me one
Thanks

Adrian,
I know where one more R151F and 23 splined Tcase assembly are. The salvage yard wants $500 US for the unit. Comes with the bellhousing to mate with a 22R / 22R-E / 22R-TE. He won't sell them separately. I imagine with shipping and duty, that's a bit steep for your blood.
U just want the bare R151F tailshaft housing (to mate your tranny to a gear driven Tcase) don't you? You'll also need the 23 splined input/output shaft too? Or are you sticking with a 21 spline assy?
Let me try some other sources I have. If it's just the bare housing I can have my friend bring it with her when she goes to OZ. Helps keep the costs down.

I thought it was about 1/2 inch thick looking at the pic. Actually my converter says 16 Millimeters equals 0.629921 Inches. Not much of a consequence is it?
Do you have to remove the R150F/R151F input shaft bearing retainer/cover to install the adapter?
16mm is about 5/8 of a inch
Yes you have have to remove the input shaft bearing retainer cover to install the adaptor plate

$500 Is not totaly out of the question ,If I need it I have to pay for it
You could try for a shipping cost to West Aust and see how it goes
shipping could put it out of the question
If you can get the housing that would be great
I want to take it to a local foundry and have them copy cast
I am already having 21/23 spline couplers made here to go with the cut and shut housings I am already making

I'll look and see what I can come up with. May be able to source a '86/87 turbo R151F tailshaft housing (b'tween gearbox and Tcase reduction unit) without purchasing a complete R151F assembly.
That'd keep purchase costs, shipping, and duty down.... I think it'd work as a trade for a Toyota bellhousing to fit a R151F to a 5L engine....
Are you casting up duplicates to convert R150F and/or R151F (maybe R154?) gearboxes with a chain driven Tcase to the earlier gear driven ones???? Smart thinking, should be a real nice market for those....
I think another one would be a bellhousing to fit the 2.7L 4 cylinder 3RZ-FE to a R151F gearbox. Those in 95-97 2WD T100's in the US market have rear sump oil pans.....
Would I be better off installing a 1KZ-TE in my 85 Hilux? I think those come stock with the R series bellhousings. Motor mounts and the electronics are the big issue there.
Either way, which is simplest and most reliable? I'm thinking the 5L... In my opinion NA diesels last longer, get better mileage, and start easier in cold weather (higher compression).
Talked to my friend, prospective retiree. Her retirement is pending selling of the house, 2 week notice, driving her F250 Powerstroke from Anchorage to Colorado and then flying to OZ for several months. She's visiting a cousin in Perth. I have no definite dates yet. Expect you would not see her until mid or late January.
Heck, I might even take a peek at coming over there myself late May or early June 05.
Cheers,
JR

You are more than welcome to come over anytime

I do not know what your water is like in Alaska but here in Perth it corrodes aluminium heads and timing covers very quickly inhibitors are a must
I would go with the Iron 5L no electronic injector pump as on the 1KZ TE
I also make a modified oil relief valve for the " L " diesels

Adrian,
I have a 1kz with R151 and chain drive transfer in an 84 lux. I want to swap the chain drive transfer for a gear drive transfer case. I believe that you need an adaptor housing and a spline coupler has the R151 is 26 spline.
Are you making these items or had any luck in getting a housing from the states to copy?

The R151 is 23 spline I have 21 to 23 splined couplers but unfortunatly I have run out of housing to graft together for the geardrive transfer case
I am still trying to get them cast
