The canister assists keeping them cool by sticking it in the cool flowing air, same system bikes have used for 25+ yrs..

what is the need to space the front shock tower? why wont it do the same as the rear?

a standard height GQ coil will stretch to the length of a 14" travel shock, think leverage. obviously it won't last forever, but it will probably see the life of your car out. obviously a taller spring will do it a lot easier, unless you have some obscene spring rate.
clamp the front springs in too, you might think the long bumpstop will hold them there, but if you get the car vertical enough they will slide off the bottom. then they mash your brake lines and stuff.

Cause you can go to any ARB store get OMEs in 3inch lift, and if they die anywhere, theres heaps of ARB Suppliers to replace under warranty...

I'm trying to do the same thing as Marin pretty much. After speaking to ARB at two different dealers both of them told me arb does not do 3" kits at all. After asking both of them about the N19L and N29L shocks they both gave me vague responses and pretty much told me that it may work but they could be a little long for a 75mm lifted spring. ARB do not have 75mm higher coil springs either. I'm thinking of going TJM.

Foam cells are a cheap way to make a shock.
Gas pressurised shocks will out perform foam cells. Ive seen foam cells fall to bits internally when subjected to lots of fast outback work. Gas shocks go better and if they soften up due to fade come good again when allowed to cool a bit.
I think Aussies are getting ripped off with cheap import shocks with foam cells which are then priced high so some thinhk thay must be good.... Marketing??

that was useless and non-constructive post, this is a serious thread and your "as usual" useless contributions are not at all helpful or wanted

not with the new rear coils i will try n get some this weekend im not gettin as much droop as b4 (i think because my lowers are now hitting the chassi rail slightly in the pics in my members section from behind i was only missin out on full droop by bout 17mm with the 99012's but as seen in the pic i was gettin and still am full compression on the shock in its new location...............

Wendle has run this setup with no dramas on his rig (old stlye not sure on new setup ) with wat im aware no dramas ...........

cheers dan.. try to get the pics asap if ya can..

marin (ben) will be making our spring retainers as outlined by yourself hopefully which will be sweet..

we are going the 3" dobinsons springs & tough dog shocks which are made for 4" lift, thats why we are putting in the retainers..

Yep will do robbie .................. :D

Im sure you will have no dramas .................the upper plate on mine not the retainin plate but the 1 thats it bolted to i actually welded into the hole (shaped with grinder tp suit) in the upper coil perch the plate also has a strengthen plate on top (flatbar) and i position this so that wen ya pop ya bolt in the head of thebolt sits up against the plate and stops it from spinnin wen ya under neath tryin to do it up works a treat :D ........

ffffff i will now take a breath  realloy gotta learn how to use the full stop key ;)

you used them all at the start!

i'm gona have a go drawing up some retainers from the pics and info while its all still fresh in my mind, but i'm thinking that i will want the spring b4 i make them so that i make them exactly to size. What did you use to weld them? mig or arc? also, how thick and what material is suitable to use? This will be my first real piece of engineering on my car, so i dont want to fark it up, otherwise i will be hesistant to do anything else.

yeah, they are still there, exactly the same setup. just easier to get at now. :D

done exactly the same thing in the front now too. that one is truly a bastard to get the bolt in from underneath.

if this helps anyone?

On the OME 'L' series shocks for a LWB the Dobinsons springs that are 530mm rear and about 500mm front free height (4" I think they call them)
Work OK on mine and a couple of others.
Rears are N29L front are N19L (longer again fronts are N73 series)

front shock N19L open 555 to 322 closed
rear shock N29L open 716 to 426 closed
front shock N73L open 667 to 381 closed (tower spacer req.)
front shock N73 open 614 to 354 closed
