good mate. glad to see someone not fussed about the toyota into nissan ;) . i give credit where its due and say toyota donks are better than nissans in this catogory. ie 1hz better than td40, 4.5 petty better than tb42, etc... i know these arne't from the same era's but they were offered at the dealer at the same times ;)

its funny the same people that are anal about toyotas into nissans are more than happy to boast about their trucks fat 253 holden anchor

i was looking at a lexus motor to replace the 350 in my boat (not that theres anything wrong with mine), but you can't help but find these top motors a home

cheers
My mav had

Phase 1 gas/petrol when i bought it - pain in the arse tuning it for duel fuel, had a miss under load, had to carry more jerry can across the desert, gutless on gas and although cheaper than then petrol when you work out how much upper cylinder head lube it supposed to be getting it didn't seem to work out that cheap (to me anyway), stuffed the carby plus power reduction on gas (i'll stop there)

Drive a mates gq TD42 Turbo with 1000 foot per pound & 150 horsepower at the rear wheels WOH!

Phase 3 Diesel conversion & turbo very very shortly.

Diesel may be dearer but better economy and I like the reliability.

Diesel all the way - in a gq anyway

The Pajero on the other hand...................
Joe Dirt wrote:The downfall is the TB42 turbo wouldnt like to rev hard..ie..4500-5000rpm tops. Also there's not much good aftermarket gear for them such as heavy duty steel rod's, off the shelf forged piston's..etc

With the smaller engines like the shorter stroke RB30 you have all that sort of stuff off the shelve's and they have no problems being spun to 7000+rpm all day long on 20psi and in many applications higher boost level's.

The even shorter stroke RB26 head your looking at 8-9000rpm in stock factory form and some very highly modded one's go as high as 12-13000rpm and 1400+hp.

So I shouldn't have been taking my stock block out to 6500rpm? All I did was disconnect the rev limiter and install a 3 litre 8000rpm tacho a few years ago, sure I cracked a head, but that was corrosion induced. :D

You too spend heaps of cash then realising that a diesel is the go, even if the pump rebuild is expensive. I've had it done since the rebuild and still stand by my decision to go diesel! IMO

Well I am about to find out how much money I will loose converting to a V8 petty. EFI v8 here I come!!!!

The big bad diesel is for sale if anyone interested or know someone who is! Check out for sale section for details. ;)

I am very crazy doing this now but I can't help it. I love me a V8 always have. Having even crazier people telling me it is the way to go doesn't help. :bad-words:

*Explanation to missus after big fight!* "Don't blame me they made me do it"

Well i appreciate everyones different angles on this topic.i know its hard to decide ,some say diesel some say petrol.I know everyone has there own reasons behind what they like dislike in engines and its good to see that.
BUT after much deliberation the decision was made and it was BRU21 who had the most influence.
I have bought a 4.2 duel fuel 5 speed unreg with 336000 kms on the clock from auctions for $5100, so with 12mths rego it will be about $5700.

Once again thanks to everyone for your replies. It made the decision harder but hopefully its the right one.
