I was thinking about sticking a picture of a stereo in my softop 40
That way it will look cool and with the amount of noise from wind, V8 and swampers there will be no difference to the sound anyway

i couldnt give a shit about the payouts for wanting to have a stereo.
this truck will eventually be my daily driver so i want to have some creature comforts such as a decent stereo. i reckon there is nothing better than crusing somewhere with the music blaring out of the sterreo.
and im not a ethnic person / fun boy

I use to own a LWB Series IIA Soft top land Rover with a reasonable stereo (no sub though).
I made an overhead console that was painted black which had the head unit (detachable face) and front 6 1/2" speakers which pointed down.
I had 7 x 10's in the rear in both back corners in boxes that were bolted to the shell. in 2 years with one year parking at Mt Druitt I never had anything stolen.
I could hear my stero quite fine over the nobbly tires and engine/gearbox noise and that was a LWB so a SWb zook will sound fine.
The idea of hiding the stereo and having a cheap looking one showing is a good idea.
As for the sub, maybe sink it under the rear seat ??

hrm was gonna consider a soft top when i get my 4by but after reading this topic i think i might just stick clear of them...seems like a hard top is a much easier option.
Shorty40 - that was an awesome come back line. good job

well you got to make sacrifices some where! if you bolt everything down then it just means more damage when it does get stolen (and if you cruze round advertizing the fact that you got a nice steeza it will get nicked) best option is a cheep steerio, or a hard top or hide it as best you can, as far as putting a 30 buck special head unit to "fool" the theiving scum, they are scum and will take anything so just leave the hole so they think their buddy got to it already. As far as the alarm goes, when was the last time you rushed over to see why a cars alarm was going off? car alarms have become an every day event that we just switch off to. the only good thing bout alarms is the imobiliser which aint going to save you stezza
thats my 2c

jaycar do a rad alarm which will almost literally deafen you if you stay in the cabin more than a couple of minutes when set off was in excess of 110db i think from memory (quote me if i`m wrong)
best way is to make it look cheap, either make a fake face for it when you leave the car or put it in the glove box, leaving the stock one in the console
