g'day all

Well like some of the others have said most are on farms and sitting in paddocks. I am on a farm and currently have 4 G60's a 73, 76, 77 and 78 models, but only 2 are used as farm vehicles. 1 will only ever be good as a farm vehicle as it is very badly rusted. another has repairable rust, a 3rd has a excellent body but does not run at the moment but seems to have been looked after and mostly original which i oneday hope to end up fixing or selling to someone who will look after it, and the 4th has a L28 motor with 4 spd, why that conversion was chosen i dont know why, but the car looks good and one of these days i hope to that one or the other excellent bodied one back on the road .. If i had my own way i would keep buying them and have lots of toys, but with 11 cars here already i am already getting my arse kicked!

Other than that, as the others have said, ther have been 3 models since the G60 so people have moved on/up. Why wouldnt you when a GQ LWB or SWB can be picked up from about $6000

There are still planty of G60s getting around, probably a dozen here in my town (pop 20,000). Most are used for towing boats so wont have much more life in them but there are 3 or 4 that have been restored and look great.

Ah Pat. Gone are the days when you used to post on LRE forum with your series Rover and very good posts they were too. Now you are a total Nissan man. You`ll be calling your first kid GQ at this rate. Have one myself but just wonder how many of you would bypass Rover if you lived in UK. Cheapest and best available parts source of any marque anywhere. Best aftermarket parts availability and biggest club scene. Oh and four dedicated monthly mags.............all Rover. OOPS nearly forgot

That G60 freak from the USA decided to stop by your forum today...

I read through this topic again...seeing as it is near 1 year old and on page 2 in the Nissan section says something. You guys got many G60's still around over there blah blah blah....people obviously still enjoy them as this topic has had many views and replies. The whole prob with the old G60's is no aftermarket support, jack for parts from Nissan and like was pointed out many times you can get MQ/GQ's for not a lot more $$$. But the G60's started it all in Aus thus they still have a place in the hearts of 4x4 Nissan lovers. There will be a lot less of them over there in 20yrs but I think they will still be kicking around even if just big rusty pieces of yard debris.

I had to take a step back from my passion. It was costing me to much cash, imagine that! In the last year I have lost my Pinz (sold actually) which is my avatar to the left. I also lost my fav of all P-trolls, my 1980 LG61. But I did import a 1977 rust bucket of a Ute from NZ. It was one of those paddocks trucks....one thing is for sure the farmers kept it running awesome. The Ute can sit for 6 months and will fire right up without a prob. I haven't done shit with any Patrols in the last year. Just don't really have the cash to dump into them. My 1964 softie SWB Patrol is sitting half restored. It will stay sitting for some time till I have cash to toss at it.

But....my 1983 SWB left hand drive SD33 MQ is going to get on the road before years end. Going to get a turbo fitted to it soon and drop some 34's on the ugly old biatch. After that we will see what it gets...hopefully some lockers a lift and more. But of course cash is alsways the limiting factor. Any wyas, other than that my hobyy isn't going anywhere at this time and won't for who knows how long. Got to focus on real life important things, just can't make trucks be #1 in my life.

Oh ya just for the hell of it here are some pics of my rusty 77 Ute....stock as can be with some 30 year old shot springs. Ya felx sucks but what do you expect for a 10pack leaf in the rear and all the sway bars/limiting rods in place!?

BTW, this is the only and the first Nissan Patrol Ute into the USA. Not that it matters...I couldn't give the damn this away! LOL

well what the hell why not show you all this too....

the 1964 ragtop Patrol still undergoing full frame off. This damn truck is prolly gonna take me 19yrs to restore! In the USA they only sold 975 of these things. Ya I know that means impossible to get parts for but it being so damn rare is one thing I think that makes it very cool. Most people in the USA don't even know what this thing is let alone will never see one in their lifetime.

just picked up my third a few days back........1964 SWB with a steel top.
motor cactus, but the body's mostly OK.

Haven't had the time to do much with'em last few years so I guess they'll just sit in the back yard for a while longer

they are the coolest trucks ever. i wish i had the time, cash and knowledge to restore the one i had.

i am looking for a straight g60 bonnet for my new buggy if anyone knows the whereabouts of one. i want to narrow it and make a mold for fibreglass.

they are getting rare here too, ian. your soft top shorty is looking awesome.

I get that people want them for something different, and I guess as they age they will grow on me too, but for now I dont get the G60 thing. Ive driven one but never owned one, and wouldn't bother fixing one because Id assume id never be able to sell it for more than a grand. I had a 1953 Landrover, didn't get appeal of that at all, drove a early cruiser and was horrorfied. Reshelling an MQ/GQ chassis with classic tin I could understand. Found this on the rocky mountain patrol site. Now this I get:

It is like driving a classic muscle car. Ya know like driving a 1969 Hemi-cuda or a 1964 Vette. To me there is just something about the old Patrol, it's body lines, it's utilitarian feel, it's ruggedness, super solid build and believe it or not its capability off-road. In stock form a G60 will outdo most other 4x4's also in stock form from the era. Here in the USA the old Patrols are rare as can be which for some odd reason makes them very addicting to some people. I like the idea of a G60 body on a GQ. Hell man that sounds super sweet but alas we can't have GQ's. In fact we haven't had a Patrol sold on our soil since 1969.

I myself like many types of well built 4x4's...even some 6x6's.

Thanks for the compliment Wendle. It takes tons of work and a fair share of cash to do a frame off resto on anything. 4x4's in paticular require a lot of work due to the usual rough condition of the rigs. Many here in the states are just like your Aussie ones....ie used and abused till dead then left to rot in some field. It takes a huge amount of motivation and work to bring something like that back to life....even more work to make it as good if not better than it was in 1964. Even more difficult when 80% of the parts can not be purchased from Nissan. My 64 ragtop I plan to be near showroom condition with just a touch of extras for off-roading. Like a lift, 33 tires and a PTO. It will get used for light off-roading but absolutly no flogging of this truck. It has served it's hard days already and is now retired.
