currently running 16 psi boost on my td42 and i have uped it to 20 psi via an in cab boost controler but didnt really notice much power gain

mate of mine runs 22 all day on his td42. put a pod on itfor shits n giggles and it pulled 27psi........................... id hate to see if he plugged the wastegate

From these comments it sounds like not many of you have a clue about what happens to air when you compress it.
THE MORE YOU COMPRESS IT THE HOTTER IT GETS.(google "bernoulli's theorem")
Most stock turbos are generally efficient compressing air up to about 16 psi, what this means is that they do not increase the temperature of the air excessively up to these pressures. However once you go above this pressure (which the turbo will do) the efficiency greatly reduces, what this means is the temperature of the compressed air now increases at a much higher rate.
Going from 12 psi to 13psi will increase the air temp by about 10 degrees C, however the same turbo pumping out air from 20 to 21psi will increase the temp by about 18 degrees C.
You would have to be an absolute cranker running a turbo at 20psi unless you have one big mother of an intercooler, because otherwise all you are doing is pumping into the donk a shit load of f____g HOT AIR.
You will not get the any power increase, if anything you will have a power drop, unless you up the fuel, then you will be getting into dangerous EGT temps.
Most of the rice burners running 20 to 30 psi in there skylines have modified very efficient turbos and huge front intercoolers.
Running 22 psi in a stock patrol or L/C 4.2TD is stupidity, becaues you are not acheiving anything. You however will be shortenning the life of your turbo.

my pulsar (ca18det) runs 14psi standard..
has been up to about 26psi.. BUT you have to retard the timing so much it may as well not be going at all!!
the turbo is a t3/4 so it is huge for the 1800 motor, it would easy push 30+ psi, but the motor would go bang
oh and it pushes about 250kw's at 14psi = 13.3 400mtr quickest fwd in tassie!!!

how about 210hp and 1000nm

just run my 200Tdi whilst giving one o the local boyracers some sport with the actuator disconnected,peaked at 24psi of boost n held 21 psi
