Hi guys, tappet clearance only massively critical on a gas'd engine, they like to burn exh. valves. 10000km bit over board. Did over 200,000km in my old 40's with adjustments at 20000km and was great. Change oil every 5000km good idea. I regularly got 13 l/100km on petrol and about 300-330km from 65 litres of gas. Petrol quote on the highway....absolutely useless econ. on petrol around town! Built a 2F for my mates '84 troopy - bored 40 thou, shaved head, fully ported and matched head (original head), extractors, 2 1/2 " exh, turbo muffler, REALLY lumpy cam, minor carby work, electronic ignition, Bosch 85 amp alt to supply lotsa power, tuned for gas AND petrol, tappet clearance really wide at .40 mm (yet to be played with!), pulls OH SO HARD through 4000rpm even with 11 people stack'd on board! Cost? Minus labour (I'm a mech and he's a mate and he payed for the beer) about $1300-$1500. Sounds VERY horny for a six, almost like an eight! No balancing, no blueprinting and it is STRONG...two years thrashing so far. The old Chev engine was a damn fine base for the F series engines.

We will be refitting the engine in the truck in the next few weeks with the new ceramic coated extractors and rebuilt carbi and then time to have a run on the Dyno again.
It will be interesting to see how it compairs to last years run.
But still no V8 here
