well if you are after a good cheap M/T tyre in 33x12.5x15 look out for a tyre called sumotamos they are cheap any very good the tread pattern is the same as BFT but with out the price tag

One of my mates put a set of 33's on a '92 2.4L Surf with a 2" lift.
His was a manual though. It did make it a little sluggish off the mark, but once you were rolling it wasn't a drama.
Tyre choice comes down to application more than anything.
The Cooper ST is going to be great off road, in the mud it will give you heaps of traction. On the road they are quite friendly and at the right pressure on the sand they perform well. It really is a great all rounder with a little more preference for off road.
It's always been my opinion that if you do go off road it's better to have a tyre with more traction than you think you'll need, because quite often you get into a situation that you hadn't planned on and require that extra traction.

As I mentioned, I borrowed a set of coopers st and went for a play in Gembrook.
I didnt find them too bad and I felt a lot more confident having them on as when we went it was pretty muddy and lotsa fun!
I did find tho that there was one place I lost traction all together and almost ended up over a cliff.....on saying that I didnt let the tyres down (everyone else had) and I was last going along this track.
It was really slippery......I dont know if you know Gembrook but I also did Andersons track and got most of the way up that when it was REALLY BOGGY only I got stuck when I jumped out of the ruts and ended up lodged sideways across the track and it took 2 hrs to get me out (digging and winching and snatching) haha, it was grouse fun tho, made it the rest of the way up.
Im sure I would have had more traction if my tyres were down.

Sounds like you would be better off with a full mud tyre!!
If you are playing fairly regularly and can handle a little bit more noise on the road...I'd go a full mud.

haha i know someone that has mickey thompson baja claws 35 inch on their surf left on all the time, it looks like a real beast.

go 33s for sure. not going to be that much difference is power from 32s and they'll look and go heaps better off road. also BFG AT is a good choice in
tyre. you wont be disapointed in them
