Outer Limits 4x4 Board

33 MTR's have done everything right by me on my mav shorty.. wouldnt swap'em for anything else.. dont think they are as bad as everyone makes out in the mud..

33000 Kms on MT/R's and they're nearly bald!?!?!?!?!?! I don't know how other muds go for distance but that's like 9months of wear on my truck..



I reckon most people could get away running all terrains on this board........ Just an observation though.......

In those Petersen 4wd mags in the states, alot of guys run All terrains for rock.... It makes sense since rocks aren't much different to say a concrete or bitumen road. More surface area in contact with the rock and you'd expect more friction thus more grip.

It's one of those situations where you buy what you want... If you can afford them etc... Personal preference

Yeah i'm beginning to think as much.
The level of mixed reports on the MT/R's is pushing me back towards the good ol bf muddy..... Maybe..........

In the end, write down the tyres, and using opinions you've received, jot down the for and against of each, and choose from what the numbers tell you...

Take a plunge........nothing will be perfect nor do everthing you want

Go the Maxxis Muddies. 5 tyres will cost you a grand and they last forever.

I was interested to hear some opinions on ProComps X-Terrain, they look good on paper. The 20mm tread depth sounds nice.

Actually, come to think about it... a mat got sponsored by Maxis and they put tyres on his rig for him for the Trials....he liked em so much he bought them

I like my 285/75R16 Silverstone MT117 Sports. They stay clean when the MTRs look like slicks. @ $240 they are good value too.

u can't get better than Boggers for the mud

You'll probably find that this is 20/32" not 20mm.....
Works out to about 15.8mm of tread.
Most American tyres talk in inches.

Just had a look on the American site and it says 19.
Most American tyre sites quote in inches which means they have 15.1mm of tread on the 33".
Radial Claw - 21/32" which gives 16.6mm of tread!!

Go the BFG's, I had a 100 series landcruizer until i dunked it twiced. Anyway i used the BFG muddies to travel around aust a few years ago and they performed brilliantly on road and off. Did a bit of everything while travelling - lots of mud and clay, crawling over rocks, dirt roads etc.

I now drive a new hilux and i have gone the BFG A/T as i do more road work at present, however when i go touring again in just over a year i will be fitting BFG M/T because they worked so dam well, especailly when i was fully loaded.

However, the only way to find out what works for you and what does not is to try a few different ones out and make up your own mind as you are the only one who knows what kind of driving you are doing.

The claws are great off road, but useless on road. Friend had a jeep with claws, ended up snapping axle due to the grip of the claws.

I was talking Radials...or Bias.

THe Bias Claws ARE load and Speed rated to Autralian Vehicle Standard Rules, which means that they are Street Legal.

They also have fibreglass belts to increase the steering response and decrease the bias ply drift that most bias tyres get at high speeds.
Mind you, they won't be as nice on the road as a radial tyre. All comes down to your wants from your tyre.

A mate runs them (bias) as a second set on a 100....has driven from sydney to masnfeild several times, and thet seem ok, althoug they wear fairly quick

Other guys I know run radials and use them full time, get about same kays as BFG mudies
