no not really. I had box section bl and it was a death trap waiting to happen. It is not an acceptable way to go I have since moved to a solid BL and is a much better and safer route.

Make sure you laminate those Jimny axle housings. Tin foil pops into my mind (not sure why that is).

I wouldnt bother doing a SAS using Jimny bits, they don't survive well under Jimny's let alone heavier trucks with bigger tyres. Even if they are cheap and common, it will get boring replacing them so regularly.
Hope it works out for you...
Edit: BTW, I hardly think of Celia as our "leader" and your talking to a lot of people who DO the kind of mods your PAYING to get done....

The main thing with a SAS is geting the susp/mounts sorted. Diffs are changable later on...I hope you don't have to find out about this hehehe
Round tube and box tube both have their place. Your car is based on a box tube chassis....

If you post on a forum you have to expect some criticism from people. How you deal with it is your problem. If you take it as constructive then you will learn from it and maybe save yourself some time and $$$. If you crack the sads and pack up your bat and ball and go home then you are missing out of some good tech hidden amongst the shit stirring.
Having your two cents worth is fine but when you hang shit on people and are called on it either explain yourself or get over the shit hanging on you.
As to the SAS good luck with it. If it is doe well and performs then I will imagine that Joe will getting a few calls abiut some Vitaras in need of a SAS. So post up the pics and show us what he has done. It will help his business enormously as these places are good for promoting quality work

haven,t seen it yet !!
but it doesn,t need ppl , who dont even know Joe , hangin shite on his work !!
he is out there , balls on the line , running a business (& doing quite well)
supplying a missing service to Zook owners in Vic !!
If any Vic guys can do better , shut ya traps , open a workshop & see how you go !!
All good things take time , sure it might break , it might have limited flex , but until it is done , thats wat R&D is !!
make it , break it & then build it better !!
( & Joe is a Zook boy to the core , no Toyo stuff allowed !!)

I do not bvelieve that anyone is "hanging sh!t". More so just wondering why you would want to use a light weight axle with larger tyres.
I would express my concern with axle and CV strength particularly when it's a custom setup. When it breaks it will cost big $$.
I am not canning Joes work, he has worked on my cars too.
The keep it suzuki idea can be cool, but why not make it stronger while you build it? A bundera diff would have to come close wouldn't it?
Re Joe keeping it all zook in his workshop??? I was there last weekend. Enough said.

Moose no one has hung shit on Joes work. people have questioned the strength of using the Jimny stuff that is all. Jase speaks from experience having owned a Jimny and driven it hard. So to has Mick hence why he is now running MQ diffs.
The other comments were directed at Giles, he has said things like it will be done by a certain date and then people have questioned that.
We are not bagging Joe at all. As Jim said he has had work done by him as I have and I can say the work he did for me was great as to was the service. We all want him to succeed in his business as it means there will be more and more quality Zuks out there.

I dont think it is wize to do R&D on other peoples cars,
and then who pays when it breaks an has to be made better.

I don't think it's that people aren't open to new ideas, I think however that there is some resistance to the idea of making a custom axle with more expensive, less common parts when there are stronger cheaper alternatives available. My opinion is that if one was to go to the trouble and expense of an SAS and making it legal for use on road that one would want the best possible harware under there. And I would want to be able to drive it hard enough without having to think "gee, I hope I don't bust an axle coz it's gonna cost!".
BTW, most people are over the "it's a Suzuki so it must have only Suzuki parts on it" thing.

Giles I have no problem with what you are doing, and I think every one should have a different opinion, and not just conform coz someone else said so.

I like the "I missed the bus" track off their album....
If you are after a reliable (with 33+ tyres) front end, Suzuki don't really offer a viable solution, OVERKILL does tho (end free plug....25 more free plugs and I qualify for a Suzana front diff.....isnt that right SAM???.....SAM???.....

Me thinks a Mq front end with a navara rear would work quite nice,
4.6 diff gears,
smallish pumpkins and plenty of strength for a zuk
and only about 10mm wider

have you done your BL yet?
i've done mine with box section (i know, its real dodgy), but its bloody cheap! now before anyone says anything, this was the only way i could do it, and stop cutting pretty grooves in my tyres.
and i couldn't use crush tubes either, its on a vitara. proper body lift kits are too bloody expensive for me. but with a sierra, its way easy to get some G.Quality blocks made up.
