couple of final questions - why are you so intent on the blue top optimas? aren't they the same as the ellow tops but with pointless double terminals? Also, since you don't appear to be planning any deep-cycle type accessories (fridge, camp lights etc) then maybe red tops with the slightly higher CCA would be more applicable to the high current loads you are talking about (or do you plan on parking for hours with the stereo running loud and the roof lights on?)

is the 450 watts of the amplifier a true 450 watts (average maximum power) or is this the advertised, 'PMPO' figure? you need the true average maximum rated power to start with the calculations, and as this is the lion's share of the load you are talking about, so it makes sense to get it right.

You're advice is on the money for most of it there dude, just clarify a few bits there to focus on what seems blurry atm...
I've already bought the blue tops, cost price through a contact to save $'s , and I do go camping regularly where I do run a fridge, camping light(s) and the radio at a lowish volume for say 2-3 days with day trip ventures in between. The dual terminals are just there for pure flexibilty if the need arose.
The amp will be running 2x120w 8" subs in the rear roof console and some 6x9's as well, the head unit runs the splits up front and all are mounted in the roof at various points to keep it all tidy 'n outta the way o' water. It never really goes on when I'm wheelin' anyway 'cause it's distracting and I'm listening to revs, gears and anything making unusual noises i.e. driveline and engine. Just intended for driving around with and tunes while camping etc...
At the end of installing all the afore mentioned gear, I'll be definatly hooking up an ampmeter to see what sorta average and above average loads I'll be dealing with. So the rebuild on the alternator sounds lke a good idea, even at expense- I've got a good auto elec who I go mudracing with, so the expense will be a bit less painfull.

Some of us like decent sound system, and I imagine if he's in the music industry he may have a better ear for bad stereo than the rest of us.

He may only cruise on the beach, but still he's offroading, using the vehicle for it's purpose, not everyone needs to be set up for a winch challenge or Simpson desert trip.
