The ST-C's werea substantially softer compound but they added something like 4mm tread depth to keep the overall tyre life similar. If it means you end up with better onroad grip, similar tyre life and deeper tread at the start to clear more mud then it's all good.

Well at least until your 33"s are 31" tall when they're nearly stuffed.

AS we've seen Aussie conditions can be pretty hard on some tyres (think that Cooper themselves found this out with the ST's particularly on gibber) so we can't rely just on American testing, nice as it may be that they've put the effort in.

Gotta admit these days that the STT's are a very old design and damn noisy, and heaps noisier than all the other types of muddies I've run in recent times - BFG, Hankook and Yokohama. I expected when I dropped back down from the swampers to the STT's that road noise would almost dissapear based on the other muddies I've run recently but being an old school muddy they're still quite loud.

They still work very well though, which is the main thing.

When they wear out I may get the new ones if they shape up well enough against their competitors, but I will shop around.

OR

are they silica based like the MTR?

Nah.. that wouldnt be a secret.

I reckon the big secret is that they're made of solidified snot. Nice and sticky when warm so it should grip well, and you can eat it to boost your immune system. Solves the recycleing issue as well.

Other benefits - snot sticks to walls so we should be able to climb at any angle. Plus if you wipe your boogers on your tyres you can get another 30,000kms per set.

I am of the understanding that some sizes will be arriving in Australia in the first week or two of March. The complete range will be in a rolling production line and become available over the next few months.
Cheers,
Ryano

edit: More accurately... first container is due around the 5th March.

Have they got a 3ply sidewall...? that would be awesome, esp to compete with BFG's and MT/Rs

The strength of the BFG 3 ply wall is the same as the Cooper 2 ply. Cooper use a thicker cord, so the smaller 3 ply strands in BFG and Goodyear equate to similar strengths as the thicker Cooper 2ply.
The contruction of the new STT is stronger still, with a very interesting difference. This is why I said it will dominate the field in this bracket/application.

Quite the contrary bogged.... from the extensive testing the new STT went through in Australia last year, they are going to continue to get the exceptional kms out of the STT as they do out of their other LT tyres. They are a slightly softer rubber, but start with a lot more rubber on them from new than the majority of other brands on the market. This can be done because of the strong carcass construction.
That's the beauty of Cooper and their endeavour to produce the best quality aftermarket products. Their technology keeps advancing, and with their own test facilities, the end result is a tyre that is top shelf and worthy of the Cooper Tire name.

Well I definately will not be buying a tyre from such a company that will not supply a 35" tyre in a 15 or 16 inch rim, thats way STUPID!

The new STT will be available in a 33" and a 35" sizing.
It's not in production just yet but is scheduled in the near future. They also have a listing in 37" that is part of the future production. Australia is fortunate in that it has access to the rolling production of Cooper Tires at the same time as the American market. Cooper release the tyres to the rest of the world once the full size range and line is available. This is the reason that it sometimes takes a few extra months to get the full range available into Australia.
These sizes are set for manufacture soon.

Alright guys, the moment has arrived!!!

The New Cooper STT has been unveiled.
The key feature, as earlier hinted, is the carcass construction.

The old STT used a 2 body ply carcass, with a thicker, higher denier cord and extra wide steel belts making it one of the strongest tyres on the market.

So, now for the really good bit.
Cooper have taken their old STT carcass and added more!!! With the original STT body ply in place (thicker cords), they have now added an ArmourTek3 body cover ply.
This is not just an ordinary body ply though.... It is on a specially calculated angle rather than a straight Radial ply. By doing this, not only is the tyre so much stronger by having that extra ply, it also gives the tyre better puncture, tear and impact damage resistance!! That's not all though. The angled ArmourTek3 cover ply is wrapped through the bead section in the opposite direction to the other 2 Thick body ply. The advantage of this feature gives the lower sidewall and bead section reinforcement and added strength.
Everyone knows the strength of a Bias tyre off road... everyone also knows how average a Bias tyre drives on road. With this technology, Cooper have managed to harness some of the supreme tyre strength of the Bias tyre while still maintaining the Bitumen ride and usability of conventional Radial tyres.
But wait.... There's MORE!!
The original extra wide steel belts are still used, however they have now added belt edge gum strips, and yet another feature.... a Spiral Nylon OverWrap. Two main benefits of this Overwrap is:
1) Better uniformity in the tyre (Less weight in balancing required)
2) Ties the belts in and stops belt seperation from moisture. When you play off road, tyres naturally get some scuffing and minor cuts from sharp rocks and objects. This allows moisture in to the steel belts, which over time leads to belt deterioration and possible eventual seperation. The Overwrap stops a lot of the moisture and is like a Safety belt for your Steel Belts... it stops the belts from coming out of the tyre if damaged.
The tread section is unreal -
2 - Thick Body Ply
1 - angled ArmourTek3 cover ply
2 - Steel Belts
1 - Spiral Nylon OverWrap
IMO Near Bulletproof.

This tyre has been a long time in the making and there has been a lot of testing and re-testing at Coopers 48 Hectare 4wd Test Track and Test Facility in the States.

 This tyre is 33% stronger and 2.5 times more resistant to tearing.

And for all those out there that are worried about it...................

YES!!! The tyre is MUCH SEXIER now!!!!!!!!

Stocks are rolling in.... plenty of sizes due over the next two weeks.

Cheers,
Ryano :D

Hey Mark.... These should be here in about 1.5 - 2 weeks.
I'll let you know as soon as they are in stock. I've got them back ordered.

They will be a little dearer than the older STT, but well worth the couple of extra dollars. The extra strength means less likelihood of having to buy a replacement after killing one when playing.... and you're still going to get super long kms.

For all those kiddies in the Brissie area that want to see these in the flesh, we now have these in stock in the available sizes. More range available over the next 2 weeks.

My regular tyre bloke was at the launch on Thursday night, and is now on the hard sell (even though he tells me 285/75-16s aren't available for about 6 weeks?)

I'm still a little concerned about how they'll go in really sloppy stuff - they look too much like my MT/Rs, which are pretty good in most places, but disappointing on anything really loose like steep loose dirt, or sloppy mud.

Cut to the chase - how do they compare to the original STTs - on all surfaces?

Hey Scott,

The new 285/75R16 STT will be available on the 29th March.

Cutting to the chase........
The new STT is quieter, stronger and sexier than the old STT.
It has been shaped and refined by Cooper in the States for around 18 months at their 48 hectare testing facility and according to them, it is better than the old pattern on all surfaces. Cooper don't just release a new tyre.. It has to surpass it's predecessor in all aspects before they will put it on the market. That's the good thing about Cooper.... they are continually trying to outdo what they have done before.
I have spoken to people who drove on the new STT in May last year during an Across Oz product test, and I have spoken to a few other people who have had them on their vehicles testing them.
The feedback that I have gotten is that these tyres perform sensationally offroad, while maintaining some road manners.

Also Scott, in early April we are planning on setting up some new STT rental tyres. At this stage, we'll have some 285/75R16 and we'll also see what other sizes are available. If you are interested in these tyres but want to drive on them first, rent them for a weekend. There are only limited numbers of rentals so make sure you book in advance to secure them.

I'd be inclined to say that it will be about 3-4months before these will be available. They are running full steam getting the flow and availability up on the current sizes that are available. As soon as that happens, the other sizes will follow.

Cheers,
Ryano
