Stevothedevo mad a typical poofter Toyota driver comment. Who gives a F@*K if the door feels nicer. This isn't going to get you across the Simpson or the Canning or to the Cape. Just look at the results of the Outback Challenge, Winch Challenge etc etc and common sense will prevail which is the superior vehicle. Alben Perrett fom Land Cruiser Mountain Park uses a GU in competition events. Says alot for the Land Cruiser. Maybe a name change for LMP would be in order. I bet Stevo hasn't even crawled under either vehicle for fear of getting his hands dirty. The difference is obvious everything under a 4.2 Patrol is larger and therefore stronger. Come on Stevo get your head out of your arse and stop following the Toyota advertising like a sheep. Nissans rule!!!!!!!!

Hey Dude
I'd say by your comments, you have never stuck your head underneath one either.

Personally, I dont care if its a GQ or an 80 series. Both are great rigs with ALL their weaknesses. I personally prefer the 80 series over the GQ, but hey, GQ's are a great rig too.

And for the record, I think you should have a look at the results for the comps you have mentioned.

2004 Outback Challenge
1st and 3rd RANGE ROVER

2003
1st @ 3rd RANGE ROVER

Rainforest Challenge 2004
1st Toyota
2nd Jeep

Extreme International 2004
1st Toyota

So before you go sprouting off about look at the results, maybe you should know the facts. Hang crap all you like, but hey, get the facts straight first

Sorry I don't comprehend your comment about not sticking my head underneath the vehicles????????
As a qualified diesel fitter of 20 years, apart from working on heavy machinery for 50+ hours per week I spend much of my spare time (ha ha) doing repairs for friends and associates on 4wd vehicles. I basically know both brands inside out and will reiterate to you that most if not all drivetrain components on Nissan are bigger and stronger as any person worth their salt in the off road fraternity would also be able to confirm to you.

My comment regrding the results from the various extreme 4x4 competitions didn't actually say that all were won by Nissan's, I merely made the comment to reinforce that Nissan are the preferred choice in these events due to their strength and build quality.

Outback Challenge 2004
8 placings went to Nissans / Mavericks in the top 12 (67%)
First Landcruiser placed in 22nd.

Outback Challenge 2003
Again 8 placings in the top 10 went to Nissans / Mavericks (80%)
You are correct in saying that Range Rovers were placed 1st and 3rd for both years and so they should be a superior vehicle at almost 3 times the price.

Extreme International
3 out of the top 5 placings went to Nissan. (60%)

Many Toyotas running in the extreme competition series use Nissan running gear again for the same reason.

Sure as you say both are very good vehicles however if you are looking for longevity in a vehicle's running gear, value for money and are planning alot of off road work the Nissan stands alone. If you spend most of your time on the bitumen, plan on doing very little light towing, are prepared to turn your vehicles over more frequently and obtain your money very easily and get off over how a door closes then Toyota is the vehicle for you. For the record a colleague was told by a local Toyota dealership that the Landcruiser was not designed nor recommended for towing duties after several attempts at warranty claims. I wouldn't consider towing two horses in a float once a fortnight excessive! If they don't have faith in their vehicles why should anyone else? I could go on but I have to go back to work on Monday.

Please don't accuse me of not getting my facts straight when the information you have provided although factual is very limited and supports only your view and not the full reality.

The nissan (coiler) had far better suspension, better handling, was quieter and more comfortable. The only disadvantage they have is the semi-floating rear axle, but they seem to be more than strong enough.

Yep I had concerns about the semi floating rear too, but after owning & threashing one for 5 years the only time the rear axles come out after 350,000km is to fit a locker.

Still avoid all the motors except the TB42 & TD42 and the TB45.
