Gabriel,

As I have yet to see the case I am not sure but in general, cast iron can be welded with appropriate preheating and slow cool down. I would be going to some of your local engineering fabrication/repair shops and getting prices. In industry, castings are always being repaired since often they are no longer available.

They are cast alloy I think?? Still weldable, not sure how long it will last though.

Are they fairly common in the wrecker yards over there in Kiwiland?

They are relatively common over here, but still highly sought after. Calls to several wreckers last week revealed 5 winches around the North Island, but all were incomplete except for one. I bought one complete unit, while a mate bought just the winch head off another as a spare.

Spoke to AllJap again today. They have their purchasing guy looking in Japan for me. I have put an order in for three units at this point. I think that it is matter of patience and waiting. No other wrecker I have spoken to has any clue or interest in helping me so I will just hang in there.

Can one of you guys help me? I send the money and one of you buy the winch (I don't need a complete one, I need one as spare parts, so I would expect to be less then a complete one) and send it to me by a freight company.

heres 1 for digging up an old post, i have finished doing a 50mm body lift, to my GQ shorty and want to mount my winch back up front, was going to custom fabricate a mounting system so that it doesn't stick out as far or as low as the standard.

its an electric winch warn M8000, what came out standard on the GQ's, does anyone have any pics of such a design??

just need some ideas!!

As far as the 2 sheer pins go on the pto shaft - remove the pin closest to the pto box (gearbox), drill the hole out slightly (only takes 0.5-1mm) and put in a high tensile cap screw with nyloc nut (make sure the bolt isn't too long about 40-50mm so it doesnt connect with anything when spinning). This way if you do blow a shear pin it will be the front pin and easiest one to get to!

That's all right twodiffs. Post the pics anyway. Use something like www.photobucket.com to host the pics, then just link them into a thread.
