Mine has the same problem.
When mine coughs and splutters the RPM needle drops and then picks back up again.
If the Tacho is hooked up to the coil, could this suggest a faulty coil?
is this related to going through water?

firstly, do i need lose the points arm and all associated bits and pieces along with the cover plate that fits under the dizzy cap? do i need to grind down the rib thats around the shaft that the rotor button sits on? the instuctions in the kit are pretty poor..very very vague...im thinking this just maybe a job for a auto electrician.....
Hi viperguy,
I came very close to getting one of those conversion kits like the one you have for my swb gq (tb42). I ended up getting the Digital Multi Spark system instead. Mainly because I couldnt get enough tech info to fit conversion kit.
Cant say my DMS set up is best but it offers the least amount of fiddling with the original nissan ignition crap. It still uses points BUT the load has been taken away from the points. It only acts as a trigger signal which then means that my points now last me a very long time. I decided to replace my points after 15k kms of installing the DMS and there was next to no sign of wear on them. So the new points will stay on for 30k kms.
Together with the extended rotor button, new leads and coil, I can atleast say its a big improvement to the misfiring and rough running it use to have.
I still havent tuned it to run perfectly but Im currently content.

Have exactly the same thing happen to my gas/pet GQ. Noticed it is worse when ambient temp is high (30 deg +) and car has either been working hard or doing stop start traffic work. made no difference whether on gas or petrol. Was thinking either coil or LPG connections also to neg side of coil. Will most likely do some testing on weekend, going to try disconnecting gas connections fron ign first. Dam shame it is only going to be 24 deg here, mite get it hot and reproduce feature first before I fiddle.
