Symptoms ive got:

It runs fine around town, doesnt overheat.............. BUT i occasionaly hear bubbles coming out of the overflow for about 10 seconds after the motor is killed........ even when temperature is fine.

Overheats lots at anything over 100 - 120 kms for more than half an hour....... also tends to lose water without leaking over about 6 hours of a trip....... i noticed the temp started getting very high and the heater tended to blow hot air off and on as if air pockets....

the LPG started to stutter on and off abit as if running out of gas, i think air pockets cause light amounts of iceing up in the converter........

and after driving 6 hours i popped the radiator and all that came out was steam and i put like 7 litres of water in it......

It overheated far worse on the way home but didnt lose the water cause i checked it at every servo this time.......

BUT was on the hot line all the way home

BUGGA

I blew the head gasket in my Falcon in Sydney on my way to South West Rocks. Drove up and then back to Melbourne like that. But at every servo we stopped at for fuel I also refilled the oil. Used 12 litres of oil but no water, blew the head gasket through the oild gallery to the outside of the engine. When we pulled out of the servo there would be a huge pool of oil on the ground  and when we stipped for the night there was oil dripping of the towbar cross brace. The underside of that car is never going to rust :D

Went down the local mechanic and got the system tested for leaks with a die tester..... sure enough it went from blue to yellow very quickly, hence the presence of CO2 in the system, and therefore a blown head gasket as we all thought.....

Pulled the head off this arvo........

I reckon i was running on 4 cylenders.

Number 6 cylender, the gasket was blown all the way around it and it was definatly pushing sh1t up hill..... number 5 was better but still affected by the gasket......

Number 1 has a weep coming out the front of the motor, not into the chambers so it wasnt being affected much....

My oil is fine, so therefore in number 5 and 6 i was losing water out into the combustion chamber and i rekcon the fuel was going with it......

the head goes into the shop tomorrow to get pressure tested and machined to make sure its sweet before i put it all back together.

I tell ya, this motor has got serious grunt. I was towing close to 1 tonne on a trailer up from VIC ( abit over 1000kms ) and was able to sit at the speed limit for about 90 percent of the time. all the while on 4 cylenders with a blown headgasket, running hugely hot with air bubbles icing the lpg converter up

STOKED  Hopefully ill get the power back, ill get the fuel economy back and she wont over heat. At least i know she will definatly be able to tow the MQ

Screwy :D
