I think it's worth noting that those who get big flex out of their IFS rears are using enormous but illegal shackles (200mm long). I think you would find if you put shackles this long on std rears and remounted the shackle hangers forward so you get nice angle you would have almost as much flex.
What I'm saying is that most of the flex is coming from the shackle length. (How well do the rear of newer Hiluxs articulate with IFS rears as std ?)
If you want something a little more legal you are going to have to go to coils or very long springs (ie 63" Chevys) and keep the shackle length down. Rears out of Ford Falcons (56 - 57") aren't bad or full custom pack.

ifs rears are softer and longer, this allows u to run the longer shackle, it also makes it so u dont need to move ur hangers to get the flex out of it. it would be alot harder to try to get the same amount of flex out of a std rear, and the question is why would u put that much effort in when this conversion is soo much more easier

Yes Aza I was just saying the long shackle is the main factor in the flex equation- as if anyone would go to the trouble of remounting their shackle hangers and still use std length springs.
BTW I doubt whether the springs themselves are softer- if anything the IFS rears have thicker leaves, it's the angle of the shackle that exerts more force on the spring on compression.

hey, well as AZA was saying the 18mm x 120mm bolts are almost non existant aswell over here in Perth. I can get my hands on 19.4mm x 120mm whats the deal with this size?? Will it fit through the stock bushes??? Also whats the best way to get the metal sleeves that go through the front bush of the IFS springs out?? Because I was told if you can get this out the stock pins will fit through the bushes already in the IFS rears.

19.4 mm is actually old imperial 3/4 inch.. to big to fit std bushes but if your keen id say it would be easy as pie to drill out bushes to 3/4 and then they would work.. shouldnt hurt the performance of the bush.. only takin out less than 2 mm of meat..

i just did mine and the best bolts were high tensile 11/16th of an inch they fit perfectly into the bushes as is

I needed these sleeves for my front dropped hangers. I just bough a set of IFS bushes from repco and the crush sleeves were included. Then I just fitted standard leaf spring bushes over these and chucked the red IFS ones out.

never heard of anyone bein able to get the crush sleeve out of the facotry bushes that come in ifs leafs.. they are like molded in.. heard of people burnin them out with oxy, but thats a bit extreme.. use a big socket and tap the outer metal sleeve, this will remove the entire bush then your normal lux bushes will fit in the ifs leafs.. easy..

u can get the bolts.... it is just a very long wait, at the moment the one that i originally ordered still having came in and this is 1-2 months later

and no other store i have been to has them in stock. like i said the ACTURAL bolts are very rare, but u may be able to use something close or just get them machined but thats alot more $$$

Which bolts are you talking about? For the IFS bush on the front of the spring just leave out the metal sleeve that comes with it and the stock anchor pin goes straight in. Got 18mm 8.8 bolts for the shackles for about $12 each, youll need to go to a specailty place though bunnings is useless.

Sorry but how do you just leave out the metal sleeve?? Isn't it stuck in the bush good and proper?? Also wheres the best place to source 18mm bolts from?? What peoples opinions on using a 19.4mm bolts and drilling a bit of meat outta the standard bushes or even IFS bushes?? Whats the disadvantages of doing so??? Just remember I have limited knowledge and skills when it comes to suspension setups

Dont put it in

the bush pack i got for my IFS springs (2003) it was all in pieces, if the bush and sleeve were all in one piece you wouldnt be able to put the bush in the spring

Did you get the spring with the bushes already in it?? Just use your anchor pin and tap it out of the bush. As for drilling out you probably could but i wouldnt, just get 18mm bolts and your sorted. I got mine from Lee Bros. in Parramatta, just look for a place near you that specialises in nuts and bolts and they should be able to help you. Worse comes to worse you could get them shipped to you from Lee Bros.

Sounds like you got a set with a/market poly bushes and metal sleeve?
There is no way you can emove the metal sleeve from the middle of the rubber bush without totalling the rubber bush.
What's all the fuss about getting the right bolts? I just pressed the factory bush out in a vice at home and replaced with poly bushes from super cheap auto that suit the non IFS leaf hangers. That way you can use your old pins which you need to fit into stock leaf hangers anyway.

Yes thats right, plastic though not rubber. I will proably get rubber bushes though next time. Check the other threads on this Bubs wrote down a part number for a holden bush thats suitable for IFS.

i just thought that u would have to raise that handbrake cable mounts coz of the extra height after blockin springs

Ok its all setup on mine and took it out for a bash the last 2 days. Im very happy with the flex i can keep atleast 3 wheels on the ground now most of the time so i dont get stuck as easy as before. It has dropped a fraction only because the spring pack ive got has 2 less leaves in it but it rides wonderfully. I might run lift blocks, but will have to get the traction bar sorted at the same time, but im not all the fussed with the height it worked very well. I just readjusted the handbrake and it works as it did before, the diff went back an inch so this is why it tightens up around the fuel tank. Im running the shocks /\ and im happy with this setup, road handling is fine and it worked well off road, time will tell though.

Yeah had the same problem with the handbrake because the diff moved back.
I love the setup for the style of 4wdriving I do, rides fine onroad and goes beautifully offroad.
hmm heres 2 flex shots of the springs in.

Put my IFS springs in rear the other night as well, use to run lift blocks, but wasn't happy with effect on handbrake and made it difficult to get to brake adjuster, so thinkin of cutting rear shackle mount of putting in new one with about 75mm drop in rear mount, this will level the car up with the front which runs 75mm dropped front and 2" ext hangers, only thing I'm worried about is angle of rear uni on tailshaft.
