help me turbo or s/c my zook :)
OldGold wrote:stumped wrote:doesn't blower have pretty much the same boost all the way thru the rev range?
No. It gets hotter the harder it revs and loses volumetric efficiency the faster it spins. Obviously the lower boost you run the less dropoff you're going to have through the revs. I have heard of people getting good results with water-methanol sprayers infront of their s/c to cool both the air charge and s/c down. At too much revs/boost the teflon coated rotors start to delaminate.
does the boost vary as much as a turbo? i thought that was one of the advantages of a blower, that it comes on from idle and is fairly consistant thru the rev range
edit: done some reading, realised i know less than i thought, which wasn't much to start with

Found this for the toyo charger.

good tech info for the toyota charger:
http://homepages.tig.com.au/~ovlov/technical/blower.htm
"bigger crank pulley (that spins the supercharger faster, thus making more boost at less revs)"
cheers

wow really informative nic thanks so it seems that it will boost to a certain level (say 10psi) and keep doing that and no more as far as the engine will rev
So if I set it up to say 3 psi at idle with a max of 10 it should still deliver the 10 at highway speed but still boost straight from idle
If that was the case and it didn't drop off at all high up thats perfect
Anyone see flaws in that... am I reading it right If the subaru ones are the same type (roots) they should be the same yes/ no

I thought that there was going to be an overkill kit available in the future. I'd be thinking that if he's going to sell kits he won't tell you how to make your own, very understandable.
Perhaps he could sell the plans for the kit much the same as you can buy plans for go carts etc???

Ok pending the go ahead on Monday from the guy who approved my engine conversion today this supercharger will be going in asap
still need some info like in the quote above. Will the boost still be there at high revs, ie as above would be 10psi at highway speed......
THE SUBARU is a roots type blower...
the efi ecu will handle low to moderate boost...
i ran 20 psi through the setup that mick now has... it did end up ripping the teflon off the screws...
i was going to make a kit but the reason i didnt is with a new charger it was not going to be a reasonable price..
with a 2nd hand charger it was ok but selling a unreliable used charger would have cost time and customers...

Mud4b/ OPT, Cheap rates, Not cheap work. Search Opt- option offroad on facebook. Call or Sms 0439609525.. Sunshine coast, Eudlo, 4554.
Why not do both, run oversize pully to make the SC boost fast, then cycle off when the turbo is on fullboost. Had a drive once in a 4AGZTE Corolla. It was 1.6l, Supercharged, turbocharged and put out close to 200kw.

We were going to do a kit but you reallly need injexction to make it easy we were and still are trying to hunt down a heap of tbi units then we would finnish the kit. We ran the blower on my old standard engine with a tbi unit on it and it was awsum. Never got out of 5th gear on the freeway and just pulled up the hills. We had geared it to have 5 psi at 1000rpm. And the overall boost was still 5 psi as it was a small blower the higher the engine reved the blower ran out of puff so we had a constant 5 psi. Hope that made sense. We have all the bracketry and pipe work sorted for a tbi setup just can't find enough of them to warrant making it a kit.
Attached is a pic of the blower on the Baleno engine we nwver finished it off as i fitted ps instead.

Sam can you supply the blower and brackets?
Or dont you want to deal with second hand bits?
The injection should be the easy bit to find I would think.
Would the TBI off a late model 1.3 be the go? or off the 1.6?
So the standard computer OK with 5psi?
Paul.

Either setup will do.
I can supply the brackets and blowers but just beeing second hand blowers I can't warrant them.

I will try ring them tues.

cheers mate I'll be doing this for sure now. Write up in a couple of weeks
I'll be pulling more like 4500 though with my gearing Better get a BIG radiator me thinks
tbi units
If you get really stuck with the tbi units, pm me, I know they are available in the states from wreckers, 1.6 units that is. I should be able to source a few for you and get them shipped over.

Ok, found a place with the tbi units in the states, the unit on its own is going to cost $215 aud before shipping costs are added. I will keep looking and see if they are cheaper anywhere else.
I have no idea of the cost of these if they are available here, but didnt the 1.6 swift come with tbi at some stage.
As to shipping, I am getting the weight of the units so I can calculate.
Now, next is, what else is required for these units to work, computer? loom?, you have to help me out here so I am able to get the prices correct with all that is required to make these work.
Thanks
Mal

Supercharger
Sam I sent you a pm.
If anyone finds out some more info from sam about the brackets let me know. I have injection bolted up to my sierra and was just waiting to sort out a supercharger.
Does the standard MAP sensor cope with the boost?
What pulley setup do u use? I have a sierra with no power steering or aircon?
Cheers
