dunno bout you but if i did i probably wouldnt be looking foward to driving from queensland to vic and back in a 5 grand shitta FJ40...

I wasn't doing anything extreme or dangerous when i was offroad in my GU. if i wanted to go hill climbing and rockcrawling i probably would by a 5 grand 40. in fact, i actually did look at a 40 a few months back before this car came up for offer.
I was just stupid enough to try a water crossing that i shouldnt have. i even checked the depth of this big ass puddle before going through but i must have missed the 2 foot deep wheel ruts that were in the middle of it, which i fell into.
but people make mistakes and have to pay for em i guess. thats life. and im not real worried anyway. it just means i have to spend money on getting it fixed. not making it better.

Im trying the reset ecu thing right now.

air filter

Post by mav »

if the air filter is a little wet days after the dunking, it must have been very wet initially, replace it reset the ecu and test it.

Im interested to know what it is you got stuck in????
I suggest you buy a can of wd40 and unplug everything you can see, and give it a spray...remove the filter and replace.

yeah sam hows it goin.

yeah mate im spewin. I went through a swampy muddy area and there was a big water crossing puddle.

It had very, very deep wheel ruts under the water, hence no matter how much momentum i had, my chassis hit the mud in the centre and my wheels were just hanging in the ruts. i could put my hand under the wheels. they had no contact. thats why it was so hard to get me out.

Its going into the shop tomorrow. I would have done it along time ago but i didnt want the shop to do any work before i could pay for it because i was skeptikal about leaving it at their workshop. Ive now sold my bikes and its booked in for tomorrow.

Im now 90% sure its my air flow sensor. 900 bucks for that straight up. It was overdue for its 100k service anyway so airfilter, oils etc needed dumping.

Thanks for all your help/suggestions people.

Hows that patrol of yours comin sam? Got the muddies on her yet? im lovin mine, when they are actually in contact with the mud..

UPDATE

got her in today, seems that all my oils are fine! dont need to extend those breathers after all... because i wont be trying water like that again!!

All gearbox/transfer case etc etc is sweet.

Now, K&N Air filter was SCREWED. an absolute mess - uh oh..

Has anyone else had any problems with K&N filters in 3.0 TD patrols? The guy at the workshop has the same car as i do and he said hes replace 2 air flow sensors BECAUSE of the K&N and has gone back to genuine nissan paper ones.

Anyway... he reckons air flow sensor looks pretty screwed. And to BOTH of our suprise the price of an air flow sensor seems to be $280!?!? instead of the $900!

So that will be fixed up tommorow. BUT, hopefully, the AFM was as far as the moisture/mud got, no where near the pots i hope!!

He said all the computer was checked and it seemed to be high and dry and clean, but if the air flow doesnt fix the problem then i may have to take it to nissan and get her wired up to diagnose any other probs....

Fingers crossed people....

extending your breathers is still a good idea. It is cheap to do. You never know what will happen in the future. A snorkel would also be a good idea. But it's good to hear you have no major damage.
