thanks heaps mate! I'm getting excited - crossover here I come! Let's see if I've got this right.... So those long nuts that you machined down screw onto the existing studs in the steering hub and seat into the lower steering arm with the original cone locks? And the top of the nuts are larger than the hole in the upper arm thus eliminating the upper arm from completely sepatating from the lower if the weld brakes? However, the upper arm still relies on the weld for the strength with the nuts only there for a worst case scenario? What's the welding process needed? Can it be done with a say 3.2mm stick? Preheating needed?

are those blocks on your bump stops there to stop the draglink from contacting the chassis on compression?

We welded it with a mig with only mild steel wire in it.Trust me its all good.We first cut an old arm in half and then welded it back together and tried to snap it.It did snap but it took a custom made hammer that weighs about 10 kilo's and about 5 hits from this.(this hammer looks like something that THOR would have held) And it was not the weld that broke but the cast steel arm.Remember these arms are not cast iron like most people think they are cast steel.

No even without them the arms do not hit. I am running a 2inch drop hanger that is also forward 2inches and 2inch extended shakels.I have limited the up travel so the spring does not invert as this is the main cause of spring failure in the front of hilux's.Also i needed to limit the up travel to fit 38.5/16/15s.They only rub just slightly now on the firewall and a little on the front of the inner guards.

To move the front hangers forward, did you put in a new crossmember? If so what size and thickness? 100x50 hanging out 2" at front?

Ummmm it is 100x50x4 and it does sort of hang out the front but not. You need to see this.I cant get a good pic cause i have totaly plated across the front so it is not as obvious it has been done.

This is similar to Ruff's explanation but does not use the nuts to hold the top arm down as well.

thanks - it also looks like it would do the job but Ruff has a good point with the nuts holding everything together just in case.

I'll see how I go tomorrow. I was thinking of going over to eight mile plains tomorrow to look at a cut off saw that's in the trading post. How much further would you be from there? I'll be at wacol on monday, would that be closer to you? If I do make time, how do I get in contact with you?

Looking at the pic's again Ruff's nuts (on his steering arms :wink: ) don't hold the second arm down but if the weld does break the second arm will not come off, it will just be loose.
