That will be your engine mounts for sure. Thats exactly what mine was doing.
It only took me 45min to do both, the biggest time waster was finding the right combinations of short/long sockets, extensions and ratchets. Best to do it while the engine is cold too!
mavdog wrote:worn body mount rubbers, get some 6mm square building washers remove the nut off the bolts going through the rubber mount, put washer in put nut on and do up. The steel sleeve inside the mount should tighten up inside the centre hole of the washer thus squashing the body mount or in other words removing the wear out of the rubber mount...or you could just buy new ones... this has worked on 3 swb I know of...
a 30c washer and 5mins to find out could save you a lot of time and work
I went to bunnings and they didn't know what a 6mm square building washer was.
Is there another name for it? They seemed to think 6mm was a pretty small washer.
Is 6mm the thickness maybe and as long as the bolt fits though the hole it will work?
What about the outside dimensions of the washer? are they important?
Any info would be greatly appreciated, cause this noise is ultra annoying.
cheers.

Just go and look in their hardware area, It'll be a galvanised square washer approx 40mm square. You should find them next to galv coach bolts and screws etc, you can get round ones as well.
i had same problem... it is the cabin sliding along the body mounts... i pissed the body lift and the original body mounts off and replaced with 90mm one piece poly blocks with spigots... and put 12mm bolts through with nylock nuts.. problem solved... no more thumps in floor
Just something to check here, i have fixed this a few times on customers gq patrols and one gu, it was the front control arm bushes at the rear of the arm where it mounts to the chassis, some of them did not look bad at all but it fixed the floor knock noise, some of them were stuffed and very noticable. just a thought.
cheers mark.

I found the chassis cross member under the gearbox was bent up 20mm and reduced the clearance between the floor and the drive shaft near the handbrake. It was thumping against the floor when the torque moved it up and down. Got one from wreckers for $60. Noise gone now.
Mine has done the same thing, going up hills now the exhaust bracket off the gearbox hits the floor and makes the noise
Combination of the engine mounts and bent crossmember
