worth a look IMO, but just thinking, with the majority of the buggys being rovers support at an event would be good if you ran one

this is because they have to pinch parts off the buggies just to get home!

i dont really know a lot about this.......but
could you use a WRX engine. this idea came to me after reading the post my sam about the US guys using turboed 4's. and the reason i say WRX is that its a AWD so could the gearbox and transfer be used aswell?? i know its different to 4WD but i dont really understand the difference in great detail. in anycase the gearbox would be preety strong wouldnt it and therefore be able to handle greater load.............or am i barking up the wrong tree??

wrx gearboxs are weak!! awd gearboxes are not ideal unless you don't mind have weak IFS cvs.

but couldnt you run a stronger diff and CV's instead of the WRX ones. and if the gearbox is weak then my idea is shit. but what about the moter atleast...............possible there is another AWD vehicle that would have a good combination maybe.

transaxle gearboxes include the differential and outputs for the front left and right wheels. yes they are transaxle with a single rear output as well. like most awd boxes. i've seen a stripped down wrx box and it doesn't look that stout. i hear of breakages all the time. and for the money, i'd prefer a lesser engine and air lockers.

ok, so there is no front diff. kinda like a front wheel drive with an extra output for the rear i take it.........
ok, now my idea sounds shit. i think ill leave the buggy building to those who know.....

Just about got mine figured now , Tape measure still hot
So heres the Spec so far - and a little of how , Garden variety 87 thru 91 toyota camry motor and auto box 3sfe , twin cam 2ltr efi, four speed front wheel drive auto , 1st 2.84 , final 3.93 with the final we can go to
4.18 from the box available on the 1800 pov pack cam ,
A spool will be made for the final centre as to lock it for a single output ,
Engine will be situated behind the driver the transaxle will be between driver and the motor , a single drive shaft will to a reversed detached nissan mQ mk transfer From memory 1-1 high 1-2.73 low , Most probly 60 series diffs in a normal orientation , with fliped centres to give the correct drive direction ,
I looked at using a moded Lt95 transfer section , with an input at the pto position , would you believe the output casing from the rear bolts to the pto input face all bare one bolt , But decided on the nissan as when its reveresed we will get a free rear disconnect (being the front output) cool . Its more compact as well .
Engine chioce is mainly what will do the job for the bucks and have a good piont or two , These engines although an inline , are layed on an
angle to produce a lower hieght , Need the efi , Produces pretty good torque at around 170 nm , My trans dude sugested this is about the pick of the auto tranaxles for reliability for bucks, Why a front wheel drive engine and box , Gearing will be lower we have the final ratio then the transfer , crawl for 1st gear high around 50-1 low 140-1 . and this is not including the trans converter possible 2-1.
Pick up my bender this week
Going the super cheap auto 12 ton , $249 , and dawn die.
Any experience on Fliping centres on 60 series Diffs ?
Larry.

How's this bender go? I see in the latest SCA catalog that there is a bender in there for v little... wondering if it would be a fun way to give it a go.. Not like I'm going to be building a buggy with it or anything.

Dawn die and an adapter and you'll get decent bends. It's possible to go over 90deg. but fiddly work. Wendle has built all his buggies using a similar set up.

Five year old thread now dude, I think A1s prolly made his mind up...

Its actually taken Ben 5 years to work out how to post a pic, so according to him, he's right on time.
