It's a 91' 4runner with 2" b/lift, it clears the diff by 10mm and the bonnet by bugger all....but it does fit

mods are 2" body lift like was said before...TWISTY_TOY94 wrote:Do you have any pics of the clearance of the sump above the diff?
It's good to know that a mid sump can fit with no mods but.

No, but I know alot of people use CRS's rear sump. It's about $600 though from memory, though it looks very shmick.extra niss wrote:can any one tell me how make a custom rear bowl sump for a quad cam cos i am currenty trying to fit one to a mates lux with high steer it is going to be a tight fit

I just fitted one last night, it was $575 including frieght. Have a look at my hilux`s thread http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/PHP_Modul ... hp?t=47233 sump pics are the last things I posted.-Nemesis- wrote:No, but I know alot of people use CRS's rear sump. I had a PM from BowTieGQ asking about my experiences and thought I would share my reply here, given the interest:
-GrazzaG'Day BowTieGQ,
I am generally happy with the Lexus V8 but I had a lot of dramas with the assholes who installed it. Given I wanted to keep the Nissan manual box the fabrication of the adaptor plate was more difficult than expected, but this I blame 100% on the installers. If you speak to others on this forum, like BUBS, they have better ideas about it.
I dont have a lot more power, and this was not my primary reason for the conversion. I wanted a reliable motor and have always wanted a V8. The 4.0L is not as torquey as the old six and tends to stall in low-range when rock crawling. To fix this I am getting gearmaster gears for the transfer case. Maybe a heavier flywheel would also help. Dont forget the Nissan 5-speed is a big, heavy box.
I dont think I got a great engine buts thats this risk you run with import motors. I have been told the big-end bearing is noisy but it will probably last a long time.
I expect in a couple of years I will swap it for the 4.3L motor with VVTi variable cam timing - these have more torque.
Again, dont do it for pure power (in a GQ) but its smooth, quiet and nice to drive, just needs more torque. If you swap out the factory computer and play with the heads and cams they can produce big horsepower but I do not want to go that far. I get better fuel economy that the old six.

Yeah I know Nem, the clearance looks fine....probably about the clearance I've for with my front sump from the steering arm.-Nemesis- wrote:That doesn't look bad at all.... And that's only with a 2" body lift?mico wrote:heres a couple of pics of sump clearnce
I think someone fed us a pearler Twisty......
Actually, I just looked at my pic...and it seems I've got a fair bit more clearance...but its good to know that a mid sump is able to fit with no mods and a 2" bodylift.

if it ain't broke send it to me i'll fix it!
Could it not be a simple as cutting the sump and rewelding it?
If it practically square around the top could that work or is there more to it...
I'm guessing though that I could be just talking about a cover, there must be more under there, but if not, cut it down, spin it 180 degrees and re-attach...
I'm ready for a bagging as it can't be that simple for some reason though...

And in regards to the computers.....
How would performance and longevity be on gas with this motor?
If fitting Gas, could you not ditch the entire comuter, no matter which one you have, and fit a new comp for the gas, or is it normally just an additional setup for gas?

Can't help you with the GAS question....there was a discussion about it on the Lextreme forum...but I'm not sure on the details.
As for the sump, they aren't too hard to modifiy if you are only modifying the lower sump. The 1UZ's have a 2 piece sump...the upper alloy part, and the lower steel part. You have to also modfify the pickup to suit, and preferably keep the same capacity, or more.

apparently they like gas, if you use straight gas you can run an ignition only computer, but if you want to run dual fuel you have to run a fuel/ignition style computer. If you want to run straight gas it'd pobably be worth while looking in to gas research carbys more torque and better fuel economyHow would performance and longevity be on gas with this motor?

Umm...unless I am confused....it wouldn't make any diff if you had a 2" body lift or a 10" body lifty in terms of sump clearance. Lifting the body does not lift the motor away from the diff. Yes it will help with clearance at the top of the motor, and closing the bonnet.
Unless you are talking about a 2" susp lift...which may change things...but not for IFS (unless the diff has been dropped also).

This is for the beginning of the conversion, where customs mounts are being made for the motor. The 2" bodylift allows the mounts to be made to sit the motor higher above the chassis rails, incresing the clearance between the sump and diff/susp/steering etc....
