speedisleeves will fix this, approx $30/side. they are a bit awkward to fit to the axle but it sure beats buying new axles.4sh wrote:Greg,fish_man wrote:well my left one has shat its self, and when the bundy's sitting there for a couple of days i will find a dribble of oil on my tyre.
How hard is it to replace them myslef??
as i have never done one before.
Or should i bite the bullet and fork out a couple of hundred to get it down at a mechanics???
thanks, greg
I have an HJ61 Land cruiser with hubs I can't stop leaking because there is a wear mark on the axle itself. When I put the new seal in I had to take a small amount of the spring out of the seal so it would have a tighter seal around the axle. This worked for a couple of months but because of the seal wear on the axle it was bound to start leaking again, I have to replace the axles to stop it leaking for another 10 years My point is make a good inspection of your axles before replacing them into the diff, if they have wear marks a new seal wont fix it.

I'm pretty sure I've done it before but not for a few years - speedisleeves are manufactured in a wide variety of sizes to suit many applications, it's unlikely there isn't one to suit. the only hard part is getting it on there unless you have a long piece of pipe the right diameter.4sh wrote:dumbdunce, dumbdunce wrote:speedisleeves will fix this, approx $30/side. they are a bit awkward to fit to the axle but it sure beats buying new axles.4sh wrote:Greg,fish_man wrote:well my left one has shat its self, and when the bundy's sitting there for a couple of days i will find a dribble of oil on my tyre.

I have a mate who is a diff and gearbox specialist mechanic and he said you can't get speedy sleeves for the 60 series. However if you know where I can get them from, I would be most appreciative
that's still pretty steep dude. parts $150 labour $250 is about all you should pay from a shop to do it.fish_man wrote:spoke to another mate that used to work for 4wd connections, hes gunna do it for me for 500bucks max![]()
no chance on those free cv's ruff???![]()
ask them if they are familiar with the job, and how long do they think it will take. anything more than 4 hours is wrong - as ruff has suggested it should only take about an hour a side, and you know what the kit is worth.fish_man wrote:mmm, i have been told that shops charge between 7-800 for the job drive in drive out. i'll give a couple of joints a ring tommorrow and compare.
it's common to tall toyota 4WDs especially pre 1990 when they changed to a bigger seal. bundys might suffer more since they are oveerweight for the flimsy hilux front axle.Rock Wallaby wrote:i think this maybe a common problem with bundy's everyone i've seen has had the sam problem including mine, i bought a kit of ebay for $100 delivered to my door, getting a mate to do it for $100 both sides, do axle seals normally come in the kits???
