In fact you have several choices. The TD27 is already mentioned. We had them here stock with Intercooler and 125 HP in the Terrano II (new body style, but same frame/drivetrain as Pathfinder -95). One of my mates runs this one with ECU upgrade and approx. 160 HP, pulls like a beast and smokes like hell.
But there's the even choice, ZD30 :D :D !!
Came also stock as option in 04 and 05 Terranos. I have one of these rare babies and love it way more than my old VG30 petrol.
ZD30's can be easily chipped close to 200 ponies and 400+NM of torque.
In the light Terrano the ZD30 runs like a champ, pulling the 3 ton trailer with my race Pathfinder 110+ kph uphill with no problems and gets 9 ltr/100 km mileage with the 265/70-16's.
