well fill me in on what "we're" trying to achive im just giving my unbiased opinion of 2 tires
im not trying to start anything
im not gaining anything if i say one tire is better then the other
also the bfgs are more worn then the mtr's
i have the same amount of fuel i always fuel up b4 goin wheeling and run the tracks in pretty much the same order
and yesterday it was hot the rocks were sticky as the other cars were crawling and driving stuff they have neva done b4
if this comparison was by some one else not even involving bfg's
i dont even think tony would have chimed in
You stonner, i can see what you guys are trying to achieve in regards to finding out for yourselves what tyre does what!
Sorry if you think everyone has an alterior motive when replying.
Like i said, i don't give a rats arse which one is better or not, just offering ideas and ways to help you get a more controlled outcome.
FFS when someone replys it doesn't always meen they are out to get you.

this thread is funny.
i think you could spend months going through all the variables with each tyre, and at the end of it all you'll come up with the same conclusion you have already drawn. sidehill traction and maintaining direct drive when loaded up sideways really is the strong point of the mtr's. it is what they do best and they seem to do it better than most tyres.

However there are so many factors that change how tyres react and i always laugh a little when people try and compare tyres.
To be honest i don't care which one does what
But you do need to take a few things into consideration.
1. Tyre Pressure, you would need to spend weeks testing the BFG just to find a pressure that works spot on. You have had the MTR's for along time and over that time i am sure you would have adjusted the pressures to what you use today. So to just put in say 6 psi (as an example) and they don't grip aswell, who's to say that at 6.5psi they work heaps better.
2. Tyre wear, how old are the MTR's and how worn are they??? The BFG's would be nearly new and this alone is enough to make them unperform. The Red Labels apparently are at there best when they are under 50% tread and i am noticing this with every tyre i look at. All the square edges would be gone on the MTR's i would imagine unless you "scrubed" the BFG's in they would still have fairly square egdes. This to me alone would be enough to say that you testing is slightly inaccurate.
3. You also need to look at the surface of the line you are taking, one month ago it could have have a very clean (or nearly clean surface) and now it may have a fine layer of dust and dirt over it creating a very minor change in how well any tyre grips.
4. Even though you are on "exactly" the same line i have never seen anyone able to drive "exactly" the same line. I am talking cm's and mm's. You may only have the arse end of the car 2 cm's offline but it could be enough to make it react differently.
5. Little things like is your fuel take full or empty, i would imagine that it would be a 40 lt tank, so you could infact have been 40kgs heavier or lighter.
I know all these things sound silly and insignificant but hey it does make a difference.
I myself could not and have never compared tyres like this, people do. But i beleive that what happens one day does not nessesaryily happen the next. Just like when you go out wheeling, someone drives a ledge that no-one else could and then the next time they go out they get denied every time (even though they were trying the same line ). See what i am saying.
After all that i beleive that the MTR is better than the Blue label BFG anyway.
ok from wat u saying here, how come the last 5 or so times Tim has driven this line(not the exact same line i mean its not down to cm's and mm's is it ??) on his MTR's, even tho the trips have been months apart, we have had rain, dry, wind, and all sorts of weather in between and all the other shit, that he has never had side hill issues until the last trip with his BFG's ?
i mean come on............... if yer not biased about tyre brands then y is this getting u all upset, after all its only Tim's opinions and he is just letting people know about them ??

Your Absolutly right Tim. Fact is i have been running these Tyres longer than most in Australia and have way more experiance in what they can and cant do. If it were another tyre that i had no experiance i wouldnt bother replying.
But you obviously think the only reason im replying is because im Sponsord by the Sole Official Distributor of BFG Krawlers in Australia and im trying to pimp them. If this was the truth then why have i not bothered pimping them in every other thread when people are talking about Krawlers?
The main reason i replied is because you are trying to do a comparison on tyres yet your only comparing them from memory. Im not doubting your opinion. Thats not possible as its your opinion. Maybe the MTR is better on side slopes the fact is i have not tried to compare the two.

BEN WTF have i said in that post saying that i think you guys are totally wrong??
All i farken said was that there are sh!t loads of variables that could have caused them to slip.
Big farken deal! I disagreed with the way you came to that conclusion. Like i said i actually beleive that the MTR is the better tyre (not the best).

I dont have Krawlers or MTRs (and if I am not mistaken - I was 1st in Australia to NOT have them). But from my 'experience' with neither of these tyres I would say Hankook muddies are far superior in the wet. Obviously, you guys wont get the same benefits I get, cause I wheel heaps harder than any of you. So just settle down or you are all grounded for a week.

I prefer Wendle’s half worn MTRs on most surfaces [except the loose or muddy stuff] than the Blue Label BFG’s – BTW I am not sponsored by anyone [flame suit off]….

How is one to compare tyres if not by memory?
Tony, you're now sponsored by BFG, you may be using these tyres due to them being free, but are more than likely using them because you prefer them to the tyres you have used in the past. All Tim is doing is sharing his expirences with others (although they may be limited on the BFG's as he has pointed out) .
Tim, as asked by someone else how do the BFG's go on higher speed dirt road, grass, all terrain
I've noticed more winch trucks running them down here and seem to be doing well. However as with every tyre they are designed for a purpose eg. Boggers designed for mud and BFG All terrains designed for shopping malls.
Will be interested to see how you go as i'm tossing up on Irok vs BFG at the moment for the future buggy.
One last question do you have the weight of the bare steel rims from the 15x? to the 17x9

I would dispute that claim, I think you will find that I wasn't the first at the same time as you (Qld dosn't have daylight savings remember!),
and while I am sponsered by KY jelly, I think that my Dunlop road track majors are king of the bush in every terain except for yellow brick roads (I seem to have some lateral stabilty issue's in the wet on this type of surface)
and besides they say the BFG's are the best on Pirate so it must be true.
Peter.
PS. like Shorty40 I felt that this farce of a thread could use some comedy relief, some of you guys need to take a lesson in maners, the age old art of being polite, I don't expect you to hold the door open for me but I do expect you to talk with a bit of respect.

Sorry to everyone if i come across like that. But i am not using !!!!!!!! or TYPING IN BOLD or
Highlighting points. I meen it was just all typed.
Anyhow i suppose i am an aggresive (word you could in fact be banned for
), but i can live with that, i've been called worse!
It must be just me but i can't see where i was having ago at anyone or saying it was in their heads, i really was just trying to show Tim that there are a sh!t load of variables that could have made the tyre act the way it did. But i suppose it could be that its just a cr@p tyre
Cheers.

Sorry but you are mistaken i am not sponsored by BFG i never have been. I was Sponsored by 4x4Sport Australia. They do happen to be the distributor for Krawlers in Australia. Currently at this point in time i have no sponsors. But Chances are i will be signing a deal with 4x4Sport again for the next season. I have other choices of tyre sponsors at the moment but fact is i am more than happy with what im allready running.
Im not going to sit here and bullshit about how good the tyre is. No one is going to listen. I would be wasting my time. Its just the normal reaction. OH Your Sponsored by them so you have to Pimp them. I never Have and i never Will! And i have never said the MTR is a better or worse tyre than the Krawler. There are very few tyres i have been real impressed with. The MTR is one i have been impressed with.
PS; Adrian said nothing about it being in Tims Head. That was me. And i was not having a go at him. And I think Tim now realises this.

I think Bazooked is right. You've unncecessarily inflamed a volatile situation by recklessly offering an opinion.
I propose you ban yourself, then while you're riding the bus have a long hard think about your unacceptably confrontational behaviour.
If you believe you can be better behaved in future you can write yourself an email requesting your ban be lifted, and, if you're lucky, and you believe yourself to be honest and sincere, you might unban yourself before your time is up.
I think this would be good, as it will show all board members that you're completely fair and unbiassed when dealing with sh!t stirrers.
