FYI am distributorlessing ( wow thats a new word ) my HD - using coil on plug with a wasted spark system - "should" give me much better control of timing and will eventially tie in with the new ECU to take care of the boost side of things.

well to let u guys kno wats happenin ive finaly done the converison. pulled out the old hde n swapd ova the manifolds, injectors n rail n all other external accesories including the dizzy. it all fits snugly on the hdeg motor i bought. now im jus sortin out some electrical issues n should hopefuly hav d old gurl up n runnin n also with the blower boltd on too. gota run d motor in too-jus been rebuilt n decompd- b4 i can see wat power she'll make. wil let u kno how things go ova the next coupla days.

Sounds great, but any chance you can type it in english next time, I found that really difficult to read

:?: You did what!?!?!? That's one of the biggest advantages of the HD-EG - the fully electronic distributor.... and you just gutted it out....

You've now reduced it to a normal HD-E with a different cam and less compression.

BTW I've read that the Feroza spec head gasket is actually thicker than the normal Applause/ Detomaso item, so you're old Feroza engine was probably lower compression than the Detomaso to start with.

Shame about all the bits you pulled off - its now roughly equivalent to a stock HD with a mild cam. Murcod's on the right track - ignition is a HD weakness but supporting a distributorless system without fitting a different ECU is no small challenge either. Hopefully the blower will put back what s been lost as I assume its also on a stock feroza ECU ?

nah cuz the way i bought the motor was a hdeg block minus inlet n outlet manifolds, fuel rail, n all the other external accessories. dats y it cost me $500.

You can mod the standard distributor to work with a better ignition system / ECU anyway. The Detomaso package is just any easy bolt in / out swap if you get everything (loom, ECU etc.)

Does anyone know if the detomaso inlet manifold will fit the feroza :?:
Main reason I'm asking this for is clearance between the throttle body and firewall. Would be a good mod to do :D

There are a few ways of fixing the ignition that are more realistic ( and more tuneable ) than a tomato ECU. If I didn't have a complete replacement ECU then I would be using an "EDIS4" and "Megaspark".

This allows you to throw the dissy and get complete control. Havn't looked at knock sensing with Megaspark - but might be an option.

Knock sesnsing is harder than it first appears and from an OEM perspective takes awhile to get right. Some engines are dead easy and others are a challenge. I get a lot of background noise on the HD and so won't use the knock sensor unless i get really desperate.

Yes, I looked into the knock sensing issue a while back, it's a bl**dy complex thing to get working! Seems like most of the issue would be the software behind it all to actually work out when detonation is actually occurring. And of course each engine is different... so you can't just fit something off another engine.

jus to let u kno shes up n running. jus runnin the motor in n wen dats done il b able to turn the blower on n tune it up.

Shows how hard I looked at the manifold on the Tomato engine... Does it have the throttlebody pointing in the opposite direction to the Feroza ?

If so could solve my current challenge of making a cross over pipe from the intercooler to the inlet manifold.

Its probably way too easy to be true.

Yes

Ant chance of a pic of the tomato manifold ?

As I said it might be a possible solution to a problem. Whats the clearance between the end of the manifold ( not the end of the throttle body ) and the firewall ?

Do a search on Google Images and you're sure to find something. I posted a pic of a standard Applause engine bay in the last engine conversion thread about three weeks ago.
