go for a slider that both protects door and sills, make sure you bring the tube up on an angle to help clearence and insure good that you leave good clearence under your door opening incase somehow you beat the tube up and can't open your door, but with good construction this pretty hard to do...

It will be a major pain in the ass! What makes you think that the same object that will cause your aluminium sliders to get hung up wont bash the crap out of your sill with the sliders removed? I'd prefer to keep the protection in place ;)
Didnt explain myself there. The slider will be underneath, with the step bolted on over the top for everyday praticalitys

Just make sure that they are as easy to remove as possible or you'll get to the point where you couldn't be bother taking the off and that will be the day you should've. Great idea.

Youd want to go option 2 which has checkplate cover to stop rock damage to the doors. To stop the bars from bending upwards when leaning down on a rock etc, weld some thick gussets from the mounting plate to the bar, the full length out from the chassis to the bars, will help with the bending upward forces.

All bars shown are excellent quality, good to see aussie know how at work....better than the $800 from shops!!

I use 40mm nominal bore medium black pipe.
Has a wall thickness of 3.2mm

Kev do you bend up the ends of the pipe, or buy them ready made bends and weld on?
