Just unplug the connector.!
Also have you played with the auto power switch. (Power, Auto or Hold settings). I Always leave mine in power mode, but generally i find it makes little diffence to the shift points unless hold is selected and it tends to start off in 2nd gear from a standstill.

BIG UPDATE on lurching.

Just went for a drive tonight to suss out mine, while the Auto button is set on HOLD mode in 4wd Low range and guess what. Mine does this lurching too!!.
It's the engine management system doing something bloody funny.

It doesn't matter where the AUTO button is set, it still does it, while on Petrol. The ECU is definately killing fuel as it runs perfectly when i set it to LPG. I think thats why i have never picked it up before as i almost always run on LPG.

I just got under the car tonight at 10:15 pm and disconnected the speed sensor from the back of the transfercase and switched over to Petrol,
and it runs perfect. You can sit on 2000 rpm or any other RPM and it purrs like a kitten, wheras if the speed sensor is connected the ECU starts killing fuel.

It looks like i need to cut one of the 2 wires on the speed sensor (it's a 2 wire inductive type) and wire a switch in the dash so i can disconnect the speed sensor for 4wding while running on petrol.

If it's an auto related electrical problem the light flashes on your "auto, hold, power button" lower down. I get a fault code when I engage the manual lockup for the torque convertor on my GQ and when I restart the engine after turning it off it flashes 16 times but apart from the flashing it doesn't make any difference to how it performs.

Thanks heaps mate. Thanks for making the effort to check it for me. Its really appreciated. I am glad its not just my car doing it, i was starting to think that something was seriously wrong.
Ok now the big question is which wire do you cut? I think i'll be making a switch up for when i am 4wding aswell. Great idea.
Also how do i disconnect the speedo sensor from the back of the transfer with out oil coming out??

The vehicle speed sensor (VSS) is the round unit located at the very back of the transfercase near the handbrake.
There is a grey electrical connector, and you just unplug it to disconnect it.
It's a tricky little plug and you have to press the right part in order to pull it apart. Since it's an inductive unit it doesn't matter which of the wires you cut, you can chose either. From memory i think they are green.
I will leave it till the weekend. Too busy at the moment. Just unplug this connector and go for a drive.

Thanks Ergjan19, Not really sure yet , 'cos I use the car for work and I have to make a time in between jobs and just do it, probly during the week ( Sun and Monday ???) so i can get a shim for that shaft. At this stage it probly a couple of weeks after easter. I'm in Melb, Nth Subs.

I disconected the speedo sensor today and all is working beautifully.
The reduction is awsome, i can now crawl up hills between 1000 and 1200rpm. Down hill engine braking is so much better aswell.
