I think the V6 is the go also, the front diff is mounted way forward, so it would be almost mid mount, the extra weight would help the 38s bag, and the auto . For $500 if u decide for some reason u dont like it u could sell if for the same as u brought it.
Duncan when is the last time u rode in a VN?? Go for a ride and think of that power in the zuk for only $500.

Pintara 2L? Sounds interesting there are certainly a few lying around (pity 2.6L Magnas are not an option as there are heaps) which would be cheap to source both the engine and any parts down the line.

Has anyone on here done this swap before? Any feedback as to suitablility? What gearbox was used, Sierra 5 speed or nissan box?

I was hopeing to find a motor and gearbox together that i can use as with the zuk transcase with the jack shaft anything is possible.

At the momment the commodore or the bmw are looking good

2.6 mitsu engine would be ok with the sigma gbox. u can get a factory inj turbo motor also. cordia turb motor. pity there are mitsubishi.

Cordia engine is the 1.8L turbo (early 4g93). The 2.6i not enough power gain vs. the weight of the engine.

Im actually swaying my preference now towards the commy engine, due to the abundance of engines available, at dirt cheap prices. They still make good power for that size engine and weight, and they way duncans buggy is setup, i think it would go well. In saying that, i cringe at the sound of a commy v6, they sound ****, not that it is a worry in a buggy if it makes good power gains. Thats one good thing about the 4AGE series engines, IMO they are the best sounding 4 pots ever built so far.

The only problem i see with the BMW engines is reliability. Being a 4cyl, i would still need to be revved hard to make good power for what your using it for. Ive known of several BMW engines which dont respond to well to thrashing, mostly 4cyls. With that in mind, BMW parts are rare and expensive. Not the sort of engine you want in a competition buggy me thinks.

Duncan, if i was you id be looking for an engine that makes RELIABLE power and torque, remember your not racing in an outback challenge, where good power and torque outway reliability, and youve got another 2 engines on standby if one blows.

i love my twincharged gze ,
but the gze is a bit out of the price range for dunc at the mo .
in wa a front cut is $2500 plus rwd box,custom extractors,fuel pumps,under dash clutch master for hydraulic clutch,moving the intercooler
(the top mount is useless offroad even with the bonnet scoop & a thermo fan on it).
then all the hoses,wiring & little things that crop up.

it can be done cheap but you need to be in the right place at the right time.

just looked at the 1j sierra thread & it may be doable for you i know of a cheap 1jzge front cut in perth with auto let me know if your interested.

Rhys tells me that this thing will chop a VZ SS, id love to see how it goes offroad, but you moved over east before i got the chance.

Gotta love the twincharge though, not many in corollas, let alone sierras.
