Hello
My brother owns a early dual cab hilux with the solid front axle.has much the same issues as you have. The were only set up as a load carring unit as factory standard and combined with the lighter body weight of a ute.The springs are there for overly hard for major off road work.He is also looking at lighter rear springs that will give a better ride and articulation. At the moment he is using a coil over leaf spring set up wich is working ok but still not enough travel.A cheap alternitive would be half a dozen bags of sand in the back to get those spring working.Wont help the fuel bill or the spring travel but.
Cheers
