Sounds like you need to decide what you want more - better sound or hassle free wheelin?

I have my head unit on top of the dash and at a bit under 2 grand I don't wanna damage it, I have splits in the doors and hi end 6x9's and splits in the rear, 2 25 inch subs with a monster amp flowing 1400w RMS in to the subs and another big amp powering all the speakers.... I don't even use a roof half the time but I aint dumb - its nice to go to a comp and win an SPL comp against ricers but at the end of the day I wanna wheel it - loose the stereo or don't drive so hard. You can't have both.... I know I may sound like a tosser but I wanted to show up a few ricers here n there.... now I had m fun I am selling my system as I knwo I can't have both. ( and I love mud more than volume) Your only other option is to remove the sub when you go wheeling (possibly with the amps attached to it) - I would do it but the amps weigh a bit and my subs and box are around 100kg (big ass dual voicecoil with monster magnet) and I really want the room for other stuff.

If you insist on having system and flooding your car and refuse to remove the sub etc - mount the amp in waterproof box on back of sub with vented perspex lid and seal the lid with tape when out - OR - buy a system thats a bit cheaper that if it does die won't be the end of it.... Wrap the whole thing in garbage bag and then relax a bit - front speakers - Fusion make some good waterproof marine ones that sound pretty darn good too......

At the end of the day its what you want more - personally if your putting DVD PS2 System etc... Why leave home? Thats lounge room stuff not meant for 4x4 of huge nature for thrashing dude.... its only gonna get smashed and you will feel worse off.... save the money from buying all that stuff n buy some lockers or something.... then you dwon't get bogged as much (apparently - I seem to find it easy enought to do still!)

Your call at the end of the day though dude.

Dont have one.
Can't understand why people wouldn't put such an invaluable piece of equipment like this in. If you value your and your friends lifes then you should get one.

A mate was distracted for a few second on a main dirt road, and before he knew it he had rolled 80 meters down the embankment. If it wasn't for the fact that he had seat belts on and a cargo barrier, then both him, and his son would be dead now.

Honestly I hadnt thought about getting a cargo barrier. Ive had the car about 3 weeks so far and my wallet is still recovering from the purchase.

The reason for wanting a decent stereo is that I already have all of the gear. The car will be used for a lot of towing when my other car is ready and taken on long trips to heathcote and back. Sometimes we spend the night there before drag days so the entertainment factor will be good. As a daily driver a good stereo makes driving better.

I think Ill mount the amps off the roof like shown before and have the sub and box in the rear so it is easily removable when I need the space. The PS2 and invertor both fit in the glovebox and the screen is easily removable from the mounting bracket so I will be able to remove them if we go on day trips to the bush.

Thanks for all the advice guys.

I know cargo barriers are safer but i have owned 3 wagons so far and taken the barrier out on all of them. I have wagons so i can fit stuff in the back (including myself when sleeping). Barriers only allow you to fit smaller objects in. But yes they are a key saftey item. I just try and strap things down.

You spend thousands on stereo gear but don't want to spend a couple hundred on a bit of safety gear like a cargo barrier, especially in a shorty. Like the guys said, your call at the end of the day but i know what i would be doing. Your gear would be up high and you would be safe!!! Then again, i have never heard of a shorty rolling over....

Read the rest of the thread. All of this audio gear was from my last car which I sold over a year ago.

Where can I get a cargo barrier anyway? What do they cost?

I have a MIiford cargo barrier. It is a 2 position model so in a LWB it can either go behind the front or rear seats.
This may work on a SWB as well. I have 3 amps, a fluoro, a codan HF Radio, and numerous spares/ recovery gear mounted on mine, in the gap between the back seat and the barrier.
Very Handy even if you mount your Amps in a box; the pics of which I posted earlier.
Try a wreckers for a price coz nearly all ex-Govt vehicles have them mounted from new.
I have also seen a rolled 4 runner, and the only part of the roof that wasnt crushed in was the area above the cargo barrier.
VICROADS Candy cars also have partial boot cargo barriers to stop the truck scales in the boot from being able to slide forward and push the backseats down, and hitting/killing all occupants. This really happened in 2000.
How would you like an Engel full of beer in the back of the head ?:bad-words:
Fit a cargo Barrier, they should be Mandatory :rocol:

Why not attach to rear of the seats like in most 4bies, i mean how high is the water line getting in your car?

A cargo barrier sounds like the go.

Ill have a look into getting one when I get the car back from the mechanics.

wrksux. I dont want to mount the amps there purely for the fact stuff can bounce around into them.

After pulling my mates out of bog holes and such the snatches make an awful mess of that area as well with the mud and water that gets everywhere.
