Need advice on a new CB Radio/Scanner?

I've had Uniden and GME before, can't really fault them, but the ICOM Pro i've got now is a big step up in clarity and range, bit trickier than having a seperate scanner, but excellent value for what you're getting.
I must be another lucky one with the mic, cos mine cops heaps of abuse, and it's still going strong.

Icom 400 pro, are good rigs.

The cloning software is needed for programming. Cloning cables can be purchased from www.mbradio.com.au
Version 1.2 cloning software works with win XP.
Bank 1 is pre-programmed for cb freq's and tx at 5W. Use the software to program a 2nd bank for cb freq's with switchable tx at 25/5/1W or to rx other freq's.
Recieve can be greatly improved by changing the squelch setting.
Mike gain can be improved by a simple mod. Later mikes are different externally (mainly PTT button) and I don't know if circuit board is changed. If changed the mod may not apply.
Don't use the Adjust software unless you know what you are doing and have appropriate test equipment. Adjust allows these to tx at up to 45W, but they need additional cooling at power above 25W.

Even at their rated 25W, they get pretty hot.Jeeps wrote:I found that with a nice fan mounted on the heatsink 400 pro's handle high power nicely
Is your fan sucking or blowing?
I suspect the most important area to cool is the middle half of the rear end. I say this because the higher power versions (IC F221 and IC F621) have increased the depth of the fins in this area.
The way your fan is set up, looks like there would be some increased air flow over the rear end. This might be improved if the fan was moved a little further back - so that it overhangs the rear end a little.
