quote]you could run any sort of diff in the rear en you want really, how bout a ford 9" or a dana 60[/quote]

so long as you can get ratios to match the front diff

Hehe no way. With the 1UZ, 35's and F&R lockers it outdrives most cruisers anyways ;) Just looking at strength...... I'm sure after all this #$%@ing around i'll just end up with a lux leaf front hehehe

Or you could slot in a Hilux solid axle with the hub spaces to get the right width, add a locker then put in longfield axles and a set of Haultec CV's (i have smashed 2 sets of longs but as yet the Haultecs are holding up well) and if your real paranoid get the ring & pinion gears treated as well.
Oh and while your at it do a 5 link with coils  OR just take it to Cheezy ;)

Just another thought for the front- 60 series cruiser. May not be exactly the width of ur rear but surely close.

60s is spot on, wheel track is the same as IFS. The only real difference though other than just using a lux front with widetrack spacers is the 9" diff, youll just have to weigh up whether you want to sacrifice some clearance for a slightly stronger diff. The lux 8" should be good enough for a standard engine anyway.

When using the Toyota 8" HP center you can run into clearance problems.
Had no problem with the "pumpkin" but on the flange.
Part in red has got to go.

If you were to use a low pinion diff there would be no problem with the flange but you would need a different steering set up.

Set up right a HP center is quite strong.(In a forward motion)
It is stonger than a low pinion (forward again) as it is not running on the coast side of the gears.

It also depends on how much clearance you have with the toyota V8 sump arrangement.

From what i've read the Toyota V8 simply requires a rear sump as opposed to the front sump i'm using for the IFS. That's for a low pinion I think, not sure about HP....
