i also agree im using a cheapo bender and a dawn die,

all you melbourne peoples are luck as i believe DAWN is nice and close to yas, (last i heard),

but they are fine, you just need na adaptor as most pins on the rams are smaller than the DAWN pin,

Mine dents at the roller pins, how can i fix that, was thinking of changing it to rotary draw formers but thats big bickies.

place a larger diameter tube cut in half over the tube where it meets the pins. you can bend to 90 degrees then with no kinks

where are these $120 chineese pipe benders
i cant find one cheaper than 250 and none of them are close enuf to make postage worth wile

also what is the difference with a drawn die?

tool city at coopers plains..not sure exact price but i think was well under $200

he also gets the dawn dies in for you.. $85 for my 32nb die

would it be worth spending the extra to be able to bend 3 inch as i doubt id use much of it

correct me if im wrong but 2 inch is good enough 4 sliders and the like?

Bottle jack benders are fine ........

Pipe these days is a much higher tensile than it was 10 years ago, whilst this added tensile means a stronger product with a lighter wall the down side is it will kink easilly if poor fitting or incorrect roller location is used. Ya best bet is to purchase pipe that is 100% suitable for bending ( ask the supplier SPECIFICALLY for it ), then if it all turns to tears take it back for a refund. ( I generaly inform them that if it doesnt bend correctly then they'd better lube up n brace emselves so I can return it to where it belongs )

I've found that the so called "quality" varies dramaticlly from within the same bundle of pipe....... I recently did a roll hoop for a ute using 2n1/2 inch black pipe that I had asked for specifically for bending for this job, 5 lengths later I got it sweet and yet had changed nothing but the material, even the supplier couldnt get it to bend as far as I had acheived with his flash bender and super duper dies.

I'm always on the lookout for some decent pipe offcuts from the scrap bin but cheap pipe, one wall might be 3.2 mm on one side but only 2mm on the other ,good luck trying to bend it without kinking.

Got a 3" one with the view of being able to bend up a flash rollbar for the ute. Never used the 3" die though, all of the smaller dies kinked pipe with even mild bends so didn't think it was worth trying the bigger one.

However, if you buy a 2" Dawn die (they have enormous bending radii), the bigger bender will come in handy. It still needs to be extended to move the pins further out, the Dawn benders have 700mm between pin centres for the 2" die.

i find the radius on my dawn die is far to big, is there anyway to use my bottle jack bender and get a tighter bend?

There is a way to bend thin wall with these cheap benders,they use the same shit otto bins are made out off,It is a hard plastic rod and comes in different sizes to slip inside the pipe where the bends go to stop the pipe crushing,don,t know where you get it but I,ve seen it used. The only drawback is it is quite pricy therefore it might be easier to go to a thicker pipe but if weight is the factor,could be the go,I bent all my bars with a el-cheepo bender,mine came with metric and imperial dies,bends fine,Cheers Paul.

I'm fawking stoked with the DAWN die (32nb) in the elcheapo bender the stock 32nb die just folded some 4mm wall 32nb ....... the dawn die does and excellent job for value for money even better when you go halves hey HYPO ....

Ive finished off my tray with this after bending it all up (Well Sam ) down @ overkill Engineering
