Not really. I think the impression people get for why this is so is that as the front end is always spinning, (no hubs)etc when you go from 2wd to 4wd they don't feel like you're shifting anything... the lever just flops. when you go into low, the procedure is the same as for any auto 4WD.... unload all drive load, drop into N and slide the lever into low and then back into D. You will find that most auto 4wd's will permit this as it is a bit like shifting from high to low by double clutching etc... if you get it right it can be done on the move.
It will not shift into low under any sort of power.
With the same care, you can shift a suzuki from high to low on the move, and they sure aren't syncro. I think the myth might have come about becuse merc said you can do it on the move, whereas everyone else says you have to stop.
Merc made lots of assumptions that the owners of these things were into cars. There is a full wiring diagram and proper mechanical trouble shooting guide in the glovebox owners manual.

Last Wednesday was clearly Gwagen day - I passed Tonka's girlfriends green 300GE on the eastern freeway, a yellow 300GD parked outside the Grollo's house in Fairfield (always a good spot for G sighting) and I saw a previously unknown G on warrigal road This one was a bit special-
A 300GD in Beige, it had plenty of lift and possibly 37" claws (maybe 35's) it also has a custom front bar and a big donaldson air ram on the front D/S guard.
Judging by the exahust diameter, there are some engine shenanigans going on
It had centreline style alloys and cool 80's pinstriping with Mercedes 4x4 on the rear 3/4's
Does anyone know any more about this car?

Usually parks on Dandenong Road in Carnegie/Caulfield, near Dick Smith Electronics, near the railway line.

No contact, no foul
no damage at all, but it was right over. Greg, Chris, Gary and Joey sis a great job of getting it back over wothout damaging anything any more. I know thta Christover has a photo - he should post it.
Gary - Your not referring to the the Dirty Hands car are you? That runs JT2's or Mud terrains and hangs out on the south side of the Princes Hwy in the caufield/carnegie area.
That one is dark bluey/green with yellow "highlights" the one I am referring to is almost white - very light beige.
If you're right, two modified G's in the same suburb might be too much to handle!

Well he is president of the Vic Zook club.... Everyone else there seems to do it, so why shouldn't he? One of the bistable states of a zook isn't it?
