was a stupid question.... after i typed it i went to bed and it then dawned on me that i knew of 2 all ready.... but thanks for answering!
The other thing i thought about is the new diesel engine they are putting in Defender in the next few years.... i know its from the Ford van (cant member the name) how easy would it be to fit one of those into an older Land Rover and would it be worth it? Are they a good engine? Are they smaller then the 3.9 TD?

Unfortuhately, exhaust wouldn't fit out through front wheel arch due to tyre hitting on full up travel, so had to run pipe in an S from rear exit dump around end of starter and down under, past clutch slave and out in the normal RRC area.
Had to wrap pipe near clutch slave, and couldn't quite squeeze in 3" without it touching in a few places during idle and stop/ start. 2.5" seems to be plenty ATM, but i'd prefer to look at/ listen to 3" pipe.

theres a yellow one i have seen near penrith, with a 4bd1t 3 inch exhaust and 34 simex JTs. i sold him my old bellhousing - 4bd1 to lt85 and he modified it to fit a r380.

andy you can fit a 3" mandrrel without chopping. mine runs straight down just in front of starter motor then straight back witha few ups and downs, so you don't have to cut firewall or run it in the wheel arch!

ahh yes i forgot sam, your running a lt77. your clutch slave is on the drivers side isnt it? mine (lt95) is directly in the position you speak of.
I still havent touched the fuel pump, but i took the turbo off yesterday to modify my dump pipe, and i screwed the wastegate shut a bit more. it now reaches 8 or 9 psi, as opposed to 6 or 7.

The future engine for the defender is only 2.2 litre
Other diesels that would suit a rangie with 2" body lift are the 14BT and 15BT from toyota coasters etc.
In the new year I plan to swap the 4BD1-T from my bushie to the rangie. Hope to adapt the isuzu gearbox to the LT230.

I thought the new defender engine was a 2.4? Either way it is still far too small.
So what engine is going into the bush rangie John?

I want a short engine, to get the crankcase behind the front diff.
I want to get the rangie back on the road 1st. For the bushie, my thinking is that a V6 will be the shortest practical engine and the 3.6 litre, 190 kW holden alloytech is favourite at the moment (with the 5 speed auto). I am not ruling out any suitable jap v6's at this stage, but I don't know much about them.
I pushed the isuzu back through the firewall, to get it behind the diff, but was not happy with the outcome. With my 6:1 ratio diffs, a higher reving v6 will be better on the road than the isuzu.
I now have a disco firewall and dash etc to replace the rangie stuff in the bushie.
Edit. You may be correct about the disp of the new defender engine. I may be mixed up with the size of the engine it is developed from, as used in the ford trucks.

started on the new exhaust. Ive almost finished the rear part, 3 inch stainless with lots of mandrel bends etc welded with 316 flux core mig.
My current temporary one is surprisingly quiet for what it is, straight out the turbo a few small tight bends, 2 foot of radcoflex and 3 foot of 3 inch tube exiting below my rear door. no muffler etc. I dont like the clearance it gives me, it would get ripped off on the first rock i see.
